All hailing from different parts of the United States, SlowStart converged in Los Angeles through their great love of music.
A combination of players and writers, each member brings with them diverse influences and styles making SlowStart's music is a unique and energetic endeavor.

Most notably, drummer and DJ, LaniAkea Cleary has been touring the last three years with The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, serving as Backing DJ, filling massive stadiums across the globe.

Producer and songwriter Kent Hertz has worked closely with Steve Miller on his latest albums. Though his personal production company Hertz has created great success with the likes of Missy Elliot, Enrique Iglesias and GodSmack.

Front woman and award winning author of a creative non-fiction memoir, L. Marie Cook brings deep emotional tones and heart-ripping honesty to the lyricist and vocality of SlowStart. "She has a voice that cuts you in your soul."

In this collective, SlowStart creates songs that reach across the board and touch multiple genres, while breaking boundaries and constructing music that moves people.
