Bio

It's a packed Saturday night at Austin's Hole In The Wall. Pushing through the crowded room up to a spot with a sightline to the stage, four ragged characters make their way into view.

So this is Slowtrain.

All beards and curly piles of hair, the crowd watches and waits as the boys plug in their instruments. A tap of the snare drum, the pop of an amplifier, incoherent mumbling into the microphone...

The one behind the keyboard points his finger at the audience with his right hand and with his left slams a low, buzzing octave on the piano. The rhythm section stomps the beat on cue, the guitar spits a quick burst of dissonance and you immediately realize that these guys aren't gonna let you off easy.

"Stick around any longer, one of us is bound to find you out..."

The finger pointing continues and it's not quite clear if you yourself are the target of the song's vitriol or, instead, if it is perhaps being sung on your behalf. The audience doesn't seem at all concerned about which is which as they stomp along to the music and pass pitchers of beer around the room.

It's not all bitterness though.

At the band's most intimate, there is a perpetual feeling that the object of love must be sitting in the room. Or perhaps she was driven away but her spirit is still haunting the place. It is this immediacy, whether in love or in scorn, that has made Slowtrain's Austin shows can't miss affairs since the band came together less than a year ago.

The rest of the country is in for quite a show.

After spending the fall working on a new record with Los Angeles based producer David Eaton (Polyphonic Spree, Pushmonkey, Dynamite Hack) Slowtrain is preparing to take their show on the road and aiming to independently release an album tentatively titled "Bound To Find You Out" in the late Spring.

Some highlights of Slowtrain's previous ensemble include shows at the Mercury Lounge and CBGB's Gallery in NYC, Proud Larry's in Oxford MS, the Handlebar in Greenville SC, Antone's in Austin, and the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater in San Antonio opening for Norah Jones.
