Slugger – Oblivia
Masters of live performance Slugger normally have a well-constructed, powerful sound and “Oblivia” is no execption; the strong drumming works as a great backup for the surprisingly good vocals and the rancid-esque guitars give them a drive just made for hearing in a dark and sweaty room with lots of people you don’t know. Vocally Slugger is difficult to nail down into a single box; the robust nature of Justin Alfonso’s voice is akin to classic rock, but there is also a strong punk feeling in there as well. - Andrew J C Nicholls

"GIG REVIEW: Live Music @ The Pav Tav, September 29th"

Bringing the night to a start were last minute replacements Slugger who, with a couple of “dancing” friends, didn’t disappoint for a moment. Though vocally quite hard to hear at times the music, with its frequent build up, powerful drumming, and distinctive sound, had a robust edge that was brought to life by solos that wrapped around it. I may sound like a broken record for saying this yet again but Slugger, for the most part, lacked movement. If they had taken advantage of the space on the floor in front of the stage they could have sent a member down there with the sadly meagre crowd. Doing so would have added a touch of excitement to what was an otherwise almost impeccable opening performance. - Andrew J C Nicholls

Bio

We are a band which incorporates the melodies of blues music as well as the fast paced feel of punk music. With powerful rhythmic drumming to hold the band together, the distorted guitar and overdriven bass lines are free to roam the notes of which ever key the songs are in. On top of this the screeching vocals is what gives Slugger it's overall sound. Varying in dynamics, the vocal line is somewhat simple but very powerful. Hook lines are audible on some songs however the catchy-ness of the songs switch between the vocal, guitar and bass lines.
