"Madison Rose/Small City Calling (Concert)"

One of Southern California’s brightest up and coming stars, Small City Calling is taking the music scene by storm. Front man Ryan Erwin began writing music with Jake Falzone (bass) and Kevin Adams (guitar) while living in student housing at SDSU. The every changing scene of music has caused the band to replace people from time to time but they have finally settled in as a 4 piece band with the addition of veteran drummer Alex Feria (formerly of Tripp).
Bursting on to the scene in 2009 with the release of “The Living Room EP”, SCC raised the bar for local musicians. No longer can their “potential talent” stay in hiding. Raising the bar even higher with the second studio release, “Oceanus”, SCC began developing the sound that has turned them into the talent that they are today. Now with the third studio release “Golden State of Entropy” with their hit single’s (Justin Bieber vs a Great White Shark) new video just releasing, SCC is ready to start their new tour. - Whisky A Go - Go

"Small City Calling"

One of Southern California’s brightest up and coming stars, Small City Calling is taking the music scene by storm. SCC met and formed at San Diego State University in the fall of 2009. Singer songwriter, Ryan Erwin, wrote many of the bands first demo with roommate, Kevin Adams and shortly after recruited Jake Falzone and Alejandro Feria to form the band. In 2010 SCC dropped their truly innovative and conceptual debut EP, "OCEANUS". Oceanus takes listeners on a 20 minute journey through all 4 world oceans, Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific. The EP's single, "Castaways" received airplay on San Diego's very own 91X and the indian ocean movement, "Messengers" was the top downloaded song on iTunes for the band that year. Last year the band released their first full length studio record. The band is more than excited to get the new songs out for more than one reason. The album captures SCC in a wonder place in their musical evolution. While musical creativity for the record was opened up to every band member and made entirely in their home studio, although you would never know it. After many months spent fine tuning their performance skills, and recently debuting their fresh faces at the World Famous Whisky a Go-Go in Hollywood, Small City Calling is back, and ready to make leaps and bounds in 2012.

"Artists Battle of Pro Studio Time"

Pop-punk was thoroughly represented at the show, thanks to the efforts of Small City Calling and Keep the Change. Despite a broken string and no apparent backup guitar available, Keep the Change still managed to keep the crowd pogoing through its 15-minute set. Small City Calling, whose singer announced “This is the largest stage we’ve ever played on,” upped the ante for its set by tossing out T-shirts into the crowd while smashing into each other during a cover of Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy.” - Daily Aztec

"Vote for SoundDiego LIVE's Garage to Glory Band"

Small City Calling refer to themselves as mainstream indie rock. With soft voices and rich melodies, they craft a brand of highly produced Southern California alternative pop. Their influences include Jimmy Eat World, Brand New, Motion City Soundtrack and Taking Back Sunday, but elements of hip-hop, electronica and pop punk creep into the fold. The band formed in 2009 in the SDSU dorms, but the current line up has been intact since 2011, when they met drummer Alex Feria through Delirious Records. Small City Calling engineer and produce their own albums at their home base of Delirious Records. Due to a successful run at the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, Small City Calling will be playing this summer's Vans Warped Tour at Coors Amphitheatre in Chula Vista.

"Small City Calling Premiere 'Standing Room Only' Music Video"

Small City Calling's debut video for "Standing Room Only" teaches us a very important lesson — turning up your amps and blasting your tunes in the middle of the woods will ward off crazed ax-men that are after you. Okay, so maybe you won't be faced with this situation in real life [we hope], but the California indie-rockers have joined forces with PunchKiss Productions to put together a video that's as funny in concept as it is stunning in visuals. The boys hiked up into the woods of Mount Laguna to set the scene, and this effort proves that they truly took advantage of the surrounding natural light and elements. And of the video's quirky concept, the band weighs in,

"Directed by Dylan Bergstrom, the video tells the story of an angry huntsman, played by our manager, Steven Esparza, who is all but happy that some young boys have taken to his woods. Havoc and hilarity ensue as we dodge rope traps and run for our lives in the name of playin' music."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves, so check it out. In other SCC news, the band has recently been selected to play the San Diego date at Warped Tour after their success in the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands. They're also duking it out in San Diego's "Garage to Glory" competition, where they're up to win a stint performing at SoundDiego LIVE's pool party. Help them snag the spot by "liking" the venue's Facebook and casting your vote in their favor.

"Picking Up Where They Left Off"

When last we visited Small City Calling they were racking up 2010 Froglix Music Awards in bunches. Fast forward to 2011 and we find this talented quintet from sunny San Diego on the verge of releasing there newest record which, at the time of this writing, is scheduled to drop next month. I can’t wait. I mean that quite literally, I really couldn’t wait. As soon as I received word about the new album I begged SCC’s Ryan Erwin for a sneak preview. Ok, perhaps “begged” is a bit over the top, but I did ask nicely and, thankfully, Mr. Erwin obliged by sending us not one but three (3) tracks from the new album! (Many thanks, my good man.)

While I am saving my “full review” until after I’ve had a chance to hear the album in it’s entirety, I’ll say this. I have now listened to “Hold Me Closer,” “Standing Room Only” and “Satellites” about (2) dozen times since downloading them earlier this week and, judging by what I have heard so far, if the rest of the tracks are even half as good as these, Golden State of Entropy is going to be a bonzer! Luscious layers of melodica delivered with true originality. This is a unique band with an unforgettable sound that has taken what they accomplished with their last EP, Oceanus, to a new level.

Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself and enjoy the aforementioned tracks by utilizing the Froglix “play” feature from this post.
