"Tonight: Sound And Re-Vision II"

David Robert Jones. Davy Jones. David Bowie. Ziggy Stardust. The Thin White Duke. For more than 45 years David Bowie has gone by many names and explored as many personas as he's explored genres as a musician, actor, and artist. Folk, glam rock, funk, soul, electronic, art rock, unabashed pop, noise metal, and pretty much everything in between except country (although I could be wrong; in any case I'm sure an anonymous commenter will correct me)... Bowie's done it, which is good for music lovers, Bowie fans, and organizers of Bowie tributes like tonight's Sound And Re-Vision II at Nietzsche's. Put on by our good friends at Artvoice, Sound And Re-Vision II: A Buffalo Bowie Tribute Show features Alaysa O'Ballzy, Cowboys of Scotland, David Kane, D.D. Kinsman, Finster, Fredtown Stompers, Jimyn The Singing Mime, Small Smalls, Wooden Cities, The Ifs, The John Peyton Project, Tony Derosa, and more... and you can see it all for $5.

Doors open at 8:30, the show starts at 9:00, with proceeds benefiting the Lifeline Foundation at ECMC, and prizes for the pretty things in the best Bowie costumes. With an excellent album this year, his first in 10 years, it's been a good year for the elusive artist, and what better way to honor Bowie than with a hot tribute show on a cold night in Allentown for a good cause. - buffablog.com

"Small Smalls Releases Halloween Song"

Small Smalls, who you may remember featured on our top five bands to check out]t at Music Is Art this past September, have decided to get in the spooky spirit on this soggy day by releasing an original Halloween tune. Titled "Just Wanna Be Your Ghoul," the sweet and sugary song, whose narrator is simply looking for a trick or treat partner (and maybe a little more), sounds like minimal, female led Daniel Johnston number. Backed by simple guitar picking and a light drum machine beat, the somber dream pop act delivers on a pleasantly upbeat tune, especially on what can normally be a dour day. Enjoy and Happy Halloween. - buffaBLOG

"Check Out Big Synth Hooks from Small Smalls"

Recorded at Hi-Lo Studios, Small Smalls is Buffalo synth-pop that would fit comfortably on the Arts & Crafts Records roster (think Broken Social Scene, Stars, Ra Ra Riot, etc.). In fact, this female-fronted duo is quite reminiscent of the synth-y, love-fueled indie rock of Stars, with perhaps a slight tinge of Lemuria on the vocals. They recently posted a few songs to their Soundcloud - check out the single, "Brave Bird," below. - buffaBLOG

"5 Must See Acts @ Music is Art"

Small Smalls is one of the up-and-coming bands buzzed about in Buffalo. The current lineup includes Collette Montague (bass, keys, vocals), Steve Malczewski (guitar, keys, vocals), Tristain Trump (bass, Korg) and Dave Borden (drums). The sound could best be described as somewhat somber dream-pop that does not take itself too seriously. If you are a fan of some of the band members' previous works, Bear Flames or Patrons of Sweet, then you should definitely check them out.

Bio

Small Smalls was formed by Colette Montague as a solo recording/studio project in 2010. The idea to turn it into a full band was hatched after meeting Vic Lazar that same year, although the two did not officially collaborate live on the songs until almost two years later, under the provisional live moniker of Tigers are Strong.

The current official "Small Smalls" line up is comprised of Colette Montague on bass, keys and vocals, Steve Malczewski on electric guitar, keys, korg, vox and Dave Borden on drums. They will release their first full length  cd in 2017.

The Small Smalls material comes across with a catchy, pop tinge, but there is a somber and even somewhat melancholy overarching quality to the music. It is not "downer" rock for certain, but it has a more dense and earthy quality in it's lyrical content that is in contrast to some of the upbeat and synthesizer laden indie rock it might emit on initial listen. Lo/Fi dreamy pop with a slightly sharpened edge of humor; cathartic while remaining light hearted.
