Bio

The genesis of THE SMITH COMPOUND BAND occurred in 2005 when Macungie-based drummer TRACY SMITH met guitarist/vocalist BRETT ADOFF; their friendship spurred them on to enlist other musicians to join them in creating a band. JACK WIEAND, a respected lead guitarist in the Lehigh Valley for years came to mind when his band "Tutor" disbanded. Tracy was aware of Jack for years and invited him to join them in 2006. Not long after, bassist/singer JOHN ROGERS was discovered who was also a veteran of many bands and he fit well with the band's direction and also came on board. In the coming years other members had been added and then left..however it was not until April 2011 when established keyboardist/singer JIM LOFTUS sat in with the band in impromptu fashion for two sets at Mezza Luna bar in Allentown PA that the final piece had been found. Ironically Loftus had met two previous members of the band on Valentines Night of that year as he played a piano song for them at a Quakertown PA bar...unbeknownst to Jim--they were in a band..and they invited Jim up onstage to sit on on their keyboard when they saw him out that night. Those two were to eventually leave the band and make way for Jim.
The band's name-- SMITH COMPOUND-- is derived from the large tract of land on South Mountain that overlooks the villages and meadows of Macungie and Alburtis PA. This property has been owned by the Smith family for many generations and has been dubbed by them as "The Smith Compound". SInce Tracy and Brett built a studio in Tracy's home there it seemed only fitting to name the band after this "compound". That was one of the questions that intrigued WFMZ Morning Anchorman Jim Vaughn when he interviewed the band on New years Eve morning of Dec. 31, 2012 on their "MUSIC MONDAY" show the band performed on. "Where did the band get that name"? You can see that entire video interview and performance at http://www.wfmz.com/news/Sunrise/Music-Monday-The-Smith-Compound-Band/-/409464/17956472/-/w7m03vz/-/index.html (soon to be added to their videos at this site).
Along with playing prestigious Lehigh Valley clubs like the Main Gate and the recently closed "Mezza Luna" (both in Allentown), the band has been invited to do several high profile benefits such as the Tri Boro Sporstmens Club sponsored "Lehigh Valley Community Benefit" in June of 2012 and again in June 2013(June 15th). They have been booked for a June 24th fundraiser at the Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie for Lehigh Valley Magazine which will be attended by a huge assortment of LV CEOS..a Mayfair appearance in 2012 most likely to be repeated this year, and a Hotel Bethlehem gig during Musikfest 2012 also highlight the bands resume.
The band prides itself on selecting songs that not necessarily every local cover band is playing--the result is the sensation that the crowd is attending a concert-quality production, and not just seeing another "cover band". The sets are created to mix genres and maximize the talents of the various vocalists--which includes Tracy on drums along with Jim, John and Brett doing the tunes that best exemplify their vocal prowess. Brett can deliver the Matchbox and '90's alternative band sounds convincingly while deftly strumming acoustic or electric guitars; Jim brings the more theatrical David Bowie/Cream/Deep Purple/SImple Minds tunes to life with his dead-on impersonation of Bowie and classic lead singer sound while bringing the keyboard to life; John Rogers thumps the bass and does a great deal of the vocals to standard rock gems from Grand Funk to Billy Squier to Tom Petty to Bryan Adams and more--all sing harmony vocals while Jack allows his masterful lead guitar to sing all night.
The band encourages you to find them on Facebook--"like" the page so that you get all the updates on performances, and thanks everyone for their great support!
