"Smithfield debuts at the Continental Club this Friday"

Former members of Sleeping Rubys and Twenty Mondays have formed the post-punk influenced band Smithfield, which debuts its music this Friday (9.10.10) at the Continental Club in Houston.

"Smithfield/Timothy Qualls/Picture Book @ The Continental Club"

I read good things about new band Smithfield recently over at Houston Calling, and as usual, David’s right on the money; even with only two recorded songs as proof, they’re already seriously promising, at least to me. What I’ve heard so far’s somewhat sharp-edged pop-rock with a bit of an art-rock thing going on, kind of like what NY supergroup Obits does, and it’s already digging its way into my brain. Which really shouldn’t be a surprise, considering the band’s made up of ex-Sleeping Rubys & Twenty Mondays members, but hey. - Space City Rocks

Bio

Smithfield was formed in December of 2009 by former members of Twenty Mondays, (Spindle Top Records) Joe and Jay Patino; keyboardist Darin Coin, Bassist Rick Weinland, and Guitarist, Nick Karam. Influenced by the post modern music of the 80's and 90's, Smithfield prides themselves on songwriting and live performances. Joe and Jay Patino have had an extensive career in music dating back to high school where they, upon graduating, helped form the band Twenty Monday's that was eventually signed to Spindle Top Records in North Hollywood CA. Their debut Album "The Twist Inside" featured guest performances by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and rock legend Jeff Porcaro. The album was produced by GGGArth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, L7, Melvins). Drawing on this incredible experience, Smithfield brings a since of professionalism and dedication to song writing that is very noticeable in their live performances. Smithfield has already started headlining some of the most coveted live music venues in Houston and their buzz continues to grow. What sets Smithfield apart from most bands in our community is simply the music and our dedicated/business approach to our music. The songs have always gotten an incredible response by our fans as well as new listeners. So much so that we were asked to write a song for a company out of London England called EF (English First). This is the world leader in Foreign Exchange programs and we wrote a song called “London” that is going to be used in the 2011 campaign to promote their London Exchange program. This song will be used in a promo video that will be heard in approximately 40 countries around the world. We have a tremendous amount of confidence that we are “the right band at the right time”. We can only hope that the right opportunity is waiting for us at the 2011 SXSW!
