Bio

While Smitty is mostly into funk and rock music, they have played mainly in Miami, FL, where they eventually picked up an electronic/trance feel. This makes them highly appealing to many different listeners, from the live band scene to the club/dance vibe.

Some songs are more shining and up-tempo where as others are more dark and heavy-textured. By mixing together numerous influences of colorful and psychedelic music, Smitty creates different spins through their vibrant and caustic live performances.

Smitty has a strong physical image, through the constant use of their "Rat Face" and "Humanzee" art pieces. The art is highly recognizable online and throughout south Florida colleges and music venues.

Smitty uses a projection screen showing unique and colorful film elements at their gigs to enhance the visual aspect of the show.

Brian is a superb guitarist, with over 17 years of playing experience. He is especially gifted in the usage of sound-art. His range as a player is extremely broad and Smitty's music is heavily colorized by his efforts.

Alex is an extremely versatile drummer, keeping the music bubbly and popping with his drum grooves.

Matt likes to close his eyes when he plays bass, because he is searching constantly for that "pocket" or "feeling" to ensure that the music contains that delicate tantric emotion.

The music also contains sweet vocals and emotional lyrics. While the music is heavily improvised, themes do naturally run through the songs.

Smitty has existed since 2003, and has played all around Florida, and even venturing into Georgia as far north as Savannah.

Smitty adheres to only one standard of quality: the music must be unspoiled. They have found that listeners can tell when music is created for shallow reasons. With this theory in mind, Smitty creates music with no rules. They feel the music as it comes to them and they roll with that feeling, making their music a true extension of the human mind.
