Bio
Smokey is the nickname and somewhat solo project of Nickelas Johnson of Field + Stream. Influenced largely by depression-era country blues and film scores, he works to marry these elements and create playfully dark hymns and sonic deviations.
Though still interested in exploring solo experimentation, "Smokey" has grown from the stagename of the songwriter to an umbrella for a group of musicians who flesh out the songs with upright bass, accordion, violin, percussion, pump organ and other, mostly acoustic, instruments.
