Bio

Forming as a string band in the spring of 2003, the Smokin' Bandits have since developed a rapidly growing Midwest fanbase branching off of a unique syle of "Grass n' Roll," constantly exploring the realms of the musical universe while continuing to revert back to their bluegrass and blues roots. Now fully electrified, each member brings a different background of musical knowledge to form a unique original sound.

The band best describes their music as "Grass n' Roll," mixing original elements of bluegrass, blues, country, reggae, and rock n' roll in with a twist of exploration. With a lead mandolin/acoustic/electric guitarist on one end of the stage, a lap steel/dobro/banjo/electric slide player on the other, and a back bone rhythm section consisting of an acoustic guitar, bass, and drums, the variety of energy that poors out of these melodies is contagious when the band hits the stage. The keys are a frequent occurance in many shows, with friends that have included Chad Staehly (Great American Taxi), Bill McKay (Leftover Salmon, Derek Trucks Band), and Nicholas "The Feelin'" Mrozinski (White Iron Band) continuously sitting in at shows.

In the Summer of 2005 the band released their debut studio album, "Walkin' Thru," and had a summer season including trips to the 10,000 Lakes Festival, Harvest Fest, Campout Roots Festival and Gathering, Autumn Groove, and capping with a mini-tour on their way to Hookahville in Pataskala, OH where they shared the stage with Ekoostik Hookah, Little Feat, Dr. John, Donna the Buffalo, D.J. Logic, The Hackensaw Boys, Vince Herman and more!! In mid-August the group shared a night and a song with 2004 Grammy Winner (Best Native American Album) Bill Miller and his band at the historic Trempealeau Hotel in Trempealeau, WI, one of the more beautiful and popular venues along the Mississippi River.

The Spring of 2006 took the group on their first full-length tour through the Midwest capping with their second trip through the Rocky Mountains. After a successful voyage to Anchorage, AK in May of '06, and a summer season of close to forty shows and festivals throughout the Midwest, the band has just completed a busy Fall and Winter including another tour through the Rocky Mountains at the end of October, and close to thirty sold out shows in the heart of the Midwest.

Entering the Spring and Summer 2007 the band's schedule has filled fast, landing spots at the 10,000 Lakes Festival, Fat Fest, Dogstock (Melvern KS), Feel Good Festival, and dozens other shows and CD release parties in support of their 2nd album due out at the beginning of June.

Smokin' Bandits shows are never two of the same, an array of original and cover material having the element of surprise a major part of every show. The blending of energetic compositions with soulful harmony and roots music pave the way for their live performances to tell all and leave fans wanting more.
