SmoothOp (a.k.a. SmoothOperator) is an instrumental trio from Wilmington, North Carolina. Their music is a symphonic medley of funk, trance-fusion beats, dub/reggae, and everything in between. The group started in 2006 when three University of North Carolina at Wilmington students by the names of Chris, Keelan, and Tom began collaborating together. When Keelan's trance-fusion drum beats combine with Chris's Bisco-esque bass riffs, the foundation of SmoothOp is conceived; but it is the euphonious melodies formulated by guitarist Tom Shaw that truly bring the band together.

The beauty of SmoothOp lies within the fact that their live shows are almost entirely improvisational. Consequently, each note played represents the band’s ambience at that given point in time. Their music comes from the soul; they never write setlists, their songs segue seamlessly within one another, and they have been known to play entire sets without a single break.
So whether they’re playing an energetic "Queen of the Mound", a laid-back "Duncan’s Jam", or a melodious "Flow", you’re guaranteed to dance your ass off at a SmoothOp show!
