Bio

We arrived early friday evening at the white small town church in town, our friend's new living acomodations. He bought it from the town and was in the process of renovating it into his house. As a collector and rebuilder of antique church organs (yes, the 40 foot brass pipes that are played by compressed air), he found this little church with a built in pipe-organ would be a perfect place for his work. I opened the main doors, with my guitar in one hand and computer in the other, walked down through the dusty pews towards the altar. My mind was already calculating where the mics and amps would go for the recording. The high ceilings would give us some serious drum sounds. Marty Lowe, our drummer, agreed, following with his kick drum in tow. You see, Ziggy, our collector-and-rebuilder-of-antique-church-organs buddy, had agreed to let us record our first album in his new house, the little Baptist church in Smalltown Central Jersey.

My name is Andy Averbuch and I play guitar and sing in the band Smoove. My life and music were deeply affected in the late nineties, when I started doing live sound for some of the greatest Carribean musicians in the world who came through the tri-state area. My first live sound gig was doing monitors for The Mighty Sparrow in a church in Queens. I did this for 6 years straight, and felt first hand the authentic vibes of musicians such as Everton Blender, Dennis Brown, Lord Kitchener, Kimani Marley. Working the sound for these kats was like being in the band for one night and I was hooked. Lucky for me, my best friend and bandmate for many years/bands, Martin Bak, started working for the same sound company and after 4 years, he was hooked. We decided to express our love for Reggae Music in the form of a band, a band that would keep our rock 'n roll roots but also showcase musical styles we considered unjustly underated in today's culture.
