Smythe Street Choir, renowned in Fredericton for its quality performances, innovative musical arrangements and broad musical repertoire, ranging from traditional hymns to R&B and Jazz, is a dynamic, 30 voice Gospel choir under the direction of Jill Kozak. The choir not only enhances weekly worship services at Smythe Street Cathedral they also engage in many community events such as the New Orleans Disaster Relief concert, Relay for Life and World Hope. For the past 2 years they have also had the privilege of performing at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The 2007 Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival was the launching pad for Smythe Street Choir’s second recording project entitled “Change”. This upbeat, choir driven, Jazz & Blues album features the smooth sounds of the legendary Mr. Bucky Adams on the tenor sax as well as many talented voices from the Fredericton area. Such voices include…

Christine Crain: A background in bluegrass, jazz, eclectic and gospel, Crain possesses a distinguishable voice that emulates the purest of sounds. Crain, currently working on her second recording project to be released in the Fall of 2007, has been involved in numerous bluegrass community events throughout the Province. Holding gospel music close to her heart, Crain has also made guest appearances at various venues such as; 100 Huntley Street, Smythe Street Cathedral Easter Passion Play, World Hope Fundraiser and the Christian Life Center Mass Choir.

Sheldon Gordon: Gordon, 2001 ECMA Nominee, is a seasoned performer and a local favourite. Known for his solid soulful vocals and heartfelt performances, he commands the stage immediately engaging the audience. Gordon has lent his vocal talents in local church assemblies and provincial prison visitation as well as many worthwhile causes such as; the IWK, 24hr Relay for Life and Big Hearts for the Homeless.

Evangeline Inman: Inman is a speaker, singer, and prolific songwriter. Nominated for numerous Awards as a solo artist and as part of the worship group 4Given, Inman has traveled internationally speaking and singing. She is the founder and president of the extremely successful Women Who Worship conferences

Jacqueline Vaillancourt: Vaillancourt is a passionate singer with a wide vocal range and convincing ability to interpret songs in a manner relatable to the listener. Having performed in various venues over the years as the lead singer of Soul Purpose, Vaillancourt is not new to the entertainment scene. Her Blues, Soul and R&B background is sure to please the audience with her R&B Gospel performance. Vaillancourt has also appeared on Breakfast Television, in addition to being involved in numerous local fundraising events.

Conrad Mead: Trumpet, Flugel Horn, Energetic Vocals and a lifetime of musical accomplishments is exactly what Mead brings to the Smythe Street Choir. During the 70’s, Mead performed as part of the group The Fabulous Flippers who were named 'Entertainers of the Year' by the Entertainment Operators of America (EOA) in 1972. The Fabulous Flippers were later enshrined in the Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Kansas Rock N' Roll Halls of Fame. Sharing many venues with the likes of such artists as The Rolling Stones, Chicago, Kansas, Little Richard, Bobby Vinton, Black Oak Arkansas, Aretha Franklin, Deep Purple, Gloria Gaynor and Spiral Staircase, Mead continues to perform regularly with The Downtown Blues Band and at various Gospel and Christian outreach functions throughout the region.
