The “Saturday Morning Jam” on college radio www.klbc.org, hosted by the gorgeous & smart Niya D (9/27/08) was totally outrageous. If you missed our exclusive 90 minute show (tough sh--! :)… but we will post it right here soon!!! The live interview with the band was funny… and it was our first LIVE on-air performance… There were also some spins of our recorded music!!! Hey Niya D & KLBC: Thanks for inviting us to do the show. SNOW IN AFRICA is hot & KLBC was awarded “Number One college radio station on the west coast”… “truly underground radio.” STAY TUNED to SNOW IN AFRICA & KLBC.org. They’ve invited us back, Saturday, Nov 8. - A+

So, from 10 AM until noon on Saturday (11/8/08), Nick Soliday & Martin Molina were on KLBC college radio doing an exclusive 2-hour show. They literally took over the station and it was funny as hell. And... Brian Penhall called in from his fishing trip in northern California. They also played 11 songs. A big thanks to Niya D and KLBC for having them on the air. Hope you heard it. “Snow in Africa” es una banda de rock indie-alternativo compuesta por integrantes de distintas partes del mundo, Puerto Rico, Japón, República Checa y Estados Unidos

Como su nombre indica, “Snow in Africa” representa lo raro, lo inexplicable, lo extremo que existe tanto en la vida como en el amor. Las distintas nacionalidades de parte de los miembros de la banda logran que ésta tenga influencias combinadas, tanto culturales como sonoras. Incluso, el mismo Bono se admiró del nombre de la banda, y hasta les recomendó escalar la montaña más alta de Africa, la montaña Kilimanjaro.

Los miembros de “Snow in Africa” describen a su banda como misteriosa, poderosa, artística y aventurera y nosotros no podemos estar más de acuerdo. Actualmente cuentan con 3 sencillos, “All about timing”, “Sound of your voice” y “We can’t stop the rain”, esta última ya suena en 75 estaciones de radio ¡en Japón! Además, han tenido la oportunidad de tocar en venues legendarios del Sunset Strip como el Roxy, Viper Room y House of Blues en Hollywood.

Tuvimos la oportunidad con charlar con JT Lopez, vocalista de la banda, y esto fue lo que nos compartió.

¿Qué sintieron cuando el mismísimo Bono les comentó que le gustaba el nombre de su banda?
Fue increíble, tremendo halago, por que él es un icono. De hecho, estábamos en una función privada al final del año con una gran cantidad de celebridades y estábamos hablando con Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) y le dijo a nuestro guitarrista Kai: “Snow In Africa,” What a fucking great band name!
Cuando las personas de este calibre nos dan elogios como que les gusta la música o el nombre de la banda, etc … Nos ayuda a inspirarnos y a motivarnos porque es un negocio bien duro y difícil.

Hace unos meses nevó en el Cairo, ¿qué pensaron al respecto?
Si, eso fue una locura, ¡primera vez que nevó en más de 100 años! De hecho nuestro nombre “Snow In Africa” fue inspirado por el monte Kilimanjaro en África, por que tiene nieve en la parte superior de la misma todos los días del año. Algo fuera de lo normal, el continente más caliente en el planeta y tiene nieve en la cima de monte Kilimanjaro, ¡Muy loco!
Desgraciadamente, científicos predicen que en las próximas décadas toda la nieve en la cima del Mt Kiliminjaro desaparecerá. De hecho Sr. Richard Branson ha proclamado públicamente que es una tragedia que en los próximos 10 años más o menos no habrá nieve en Mt Kiliminjaro.

¿En que están trabajando en estos momentos?
Estamos trabajando en el perfeccionamiento de nuestro show en vivo para que podamos salir de gira. De hecho antes de irnos de gira, estaremos grabando todo nuestro material para tener el equivalente de 2 discos.

Sabemos que cada uno de los miembros son de países distintos, ¿cómo afecta negativa y positivamente esto a la banda?
Bueno, somos una banda internacional americana. A veces lo que se dice en inglés quizás pierde la traducción en japonés, español o checo y puede requerir más explicación. Pero nuestras influencias realmente ayudan a nuestra singularidad y en el sonido. Japón, Puerto Rico, Oklahoma y República Checa. Tenemos la intención para el 2014, que será nuestro break mundial. No tenemos miedo al trabajo duro, porque trabajamos duro todos los días.

You might’ve caught them at the Cannibal Flower art events in downtown the last couple years, or maybe you’ve seen one of their Sunset Strip sets, but wherever you first catch them, they make an impression. This is a true band of brothers – a musical undertaking forged in the strongest and sincerest of friendships – and live music doesn’t get any better than when its delivered by a gang of artists that really enjoy being on that stage together. They cannot be pigeon-holed into any one genre, but suffice it to say that Your Girl In Music is giddy at the thought of the myriad noise delicacies they’re sure to have on the menu.”
