"So Sique Feature"

So who’s So Sique? So Sique is an a young black man in America, working for the American Dream.

How did you get started in the music scene?

During my freshman year in college a friend of mind that rapped named Young Hope knew I was a poet, and I was putting out a lot of work online at that time, he said “Hey you should try to rap, you’d probably be pretty good. You already got the hard part, which is writing, down already”.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I was having a conversation with Young Hope about Rap Names, and how I wanted my name to have a double meaning. One of the main names we discussed that had a double meaning was Busta Rhymes. His name is busta rhymes, and he Bust a Rhyme. I thought that was dope. So I said, well when people hear me, I want them to day, “MAN THAT WAS SICK!”. So I thought of the name So Sick, just changed the spelling of the word Sick to Sique. I got the spelling of So Sique from a sketch artist that I was followed in 2005.

What are your music influences?

I have a lot of different influences, who in the beginning of my career I took qualities from. When I was a kid, I wanted to be 2pac. I knew all his songs, tried to wear a bandana around the house, and act like I was in the music video in the living room. But as I got older, I really was inspired by Kanye West and the way he could rap, and not talk about Crack, or being a Gangsta and what not. I loved the way Cam’Ron delivered his punch lines, so I took that from him. Content matter from Kanye, I wanted to tell stories like 2pac, and have versatility like Jay Z.

What’s your method at the time of writing a song?

Right now, I get into something I call “Grooves”, where if I wake up really early,my mind works better creatively. So I will wake up, and knock out like 3-4 songs in a hour or two. And if I still keep getting lines in my head, I go to the next song . I have a stock pile of lyrics for different projects at the moment. I have lyrics for 5 full albums right now ready and complete. 2 solo albums, the Chaos Theory Album songs. A album im doing with my protégé Conchita Virus. And I still just try to stay constant and perfect my craft, cause my style keeps evolving with every song I write.

So you are working on a new album, History in the Making. Can you talk to us more about it? How you came out with the title? Any official release date?

No official release date but half of it is recorded and ready to go, the other half is of course written and the beats are picked out, with a lot of the production coming from Flawless Tracks, who is one of wales old producers. I came up with the title History in the Making, by trying to create a new alias. You know how Jay-z is also HOV, Nas was also Escobar, 2pac was also Makeveli . I wanted something like that. So I thought, I want to be so good at what I do, that you can’t say my name, they just have to say “HIM”. Like your hear the song with so and so and Him? And people would know exactly who you were talking about. Not in a cocky way, cause I try to be as down to earth as possible, but this was my thought process at the time. So I thought it will stand from “History IN the Making”. I feel like I have a lot of classic material on this album that my fans don’t even know about yet, so im excited about it. Some classic Sique tracks will be on there, like a fan favorite called “Pick me Up”, which details my college freshman year. As well as some brand new stuff, where im reinventing my whole style. I think they will like what I have to say on it.

RIYL: Emcees spitting bars.
What Else You Should Know: This song off So Sique’s new album PolyGone is four minutes of sharp raps from three very talented emcees. The horn-heavy, boom-bap track is the perfect anchor for the seamless rotation of verses that give the track a throwback vibe. - Central Track
