Bio

Soapbox Symphony is an organic mix of acoustic and folk rock deriving its melodies from the nature of Northern California to the exotic rhythms of Africa. Currently based in Riverside, California, Soapbox Symphony has been together for six years, creating new sounds, recording in and out of the studio, and traveling across the United States performing live shows.
Members Nathan Emmans (vocals, guitar) and Kyle Booterbaugh (mandolin, percussion) grew up together in the small Northern California towns of Cool and Pilot Hill. Drummer Joe Rayhbuck grew up in Central Africa until coming to California with his family in 1996. Bassist Matt Hall is a native of the Napa Valley growing up in the small town of American Canyon. Keyboardist David Kurtz grew up in Bakersfield, CA and Wheaton, IL .
It was university life in Southern California that brought these five musicians together to create what is now Soapbox Symphony. The past three years have been eventful for Soapbox Symphony: they have released three albums: "Of Dreamers and Thieves", "Live at the Streetlite" and the latest album "Coffee Cup Wisdom: A Live Experience", toured California, Hawaii, and the Midwest, playing an annual event in Bardstown, Kentucky with world renown artists such as Tommy Emanuel, Matt and Pauly Zarb, and Pat Kirtley. In spite of Soapbox Symphony's busy schedule they still manage to collectively write new music and are actively working on a new studio album.
Soapbox Symphony is currently becoming more involved with the world around them. They are actively supporting Compassion international, an organization that exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Soapbox Symphony also is involved in playing concerts to help raise awareness of the human crisis in Darfur.
