Society of Morons

Society of Morons

BandComedyAcoustic

Society of Morons is a concept more than it is any one particular band. It is a varying group of musicians, with Matt Foy at the helm, who perform shows based on which version(s) of the band(s) the customer would like to hire. The range of genres spans acoustic/alternative/rock, Blues, R&B and more.

Biography

Probably the one main thread of commonality between all of the players used for this concept is their desire to play as many different styles of music as they can. The other is the thread of excellence in live performance. When a client enlists the services of Matt Foy and his 'Society of Morons' production, they are getting the most versatile, flexible, experienced and unique group of producers, musicians and music money can buy. The musicians come from every background imaginable - from a wealthy Nashville upbringing to dirt poor Alabama projects living. From New Orleans Po' Boys to the son of a prominent rocket scientist. Most of the players have individual bios on their own web pages - but we will have a comprehensive web site up and running soon. Believe me when I tell you, I know where the music industry is headed in the 21st century - The Beatles concept is a thing of the past. Everything is in flux - as it should be. After all, a band is just a concept to begin with - not the end-all be-all of live performance. The end-all be-all is the very concept of live performance itself.

Depth of Insight is Thus More Important Than Breadth of Knowledge; In G

Written By: Matt Foy - Society of Morons

Well, my eyes are tinted due to my raising;

And all these years of gettin' an education.

So now I'm ready to go out in the world - and give my little vehicle a whirl.

I'm goin' out to prove some points to the world;
'bout who I am - and what I do - and find me a girl!

And we'll stand for our reasons;
And fight to every end to break -
A trend.

God save the Queen.
Boo Charlie Sheen.
Jail Mr. Clean.

And the rest,
Just go - on back home!

If I were to explain this point any further;
It would drown in logic deep beneath a sea;
Of unfelt feelings and dark brown B.S.
With a meaning ready to order for anyone's guess.

God save the Queen.
Boo Charlie Sheen.
Jail Mr. Clean.

And the rest,
Just go - on back home!

Sunshiny Saturday Morning

Written By: Matt Foy

Sunshiny Saturday Morning - out on the football field.

My son's got a game, today.

The sun is slowly melting - out from beneath the stands;

And I got my bottle of Jack - it's been in my hands -
Since two o'clock this morning - I love it when a plan...
Falls together on a Saturday Morning - So I can give my boy a hand.

The whole sky is melting - into the empty stands.
The grass is wet - and I got my bottle - of Jack slowly drippin' from my hands... oooOOOHH - Gimme Dat!!

An hour later - in the morning;
The stands begin to slowly fill.
With a crowd.

The clean, green grass - melting away... underneath the players' cleats;
They're all here, the parents of the winners - to watch them perform their great feats!

The coach has taught them; he's taught them well... how to win and kill.
And they'll need that strong instinct... when they learn to defend their will... oooOOOHH - Acht!

I watched - the parents' faces in the crowd... they all looked so goddamn proud!

I like it when they look that way.
It makes me defensive, heh, heh, heh, heh.

Oh... they're pulling me off...
The football field... where my son just kneeled... before me.

Sunshiny Saturday Morning - and the sun's bright in the sky.
Well, here I am, in the middle of the field - and nobody seems to know why.

The sky is melting... into the stands.
Now filled with people - with noisy hands.

The sun is shining...on the clean, wet grass -

My son doesn't think I'll last!

"Hi! How are ya!"

"Certain parts of this society, I feel, are clearly in need of attention - and perhaps repair.
This is not only my opinion, but the opinion of a great many. Let us experience and example..."

"I didn't put on the - Marine Green - so I could come down - 'n' - hear some - goddamn bald headed Irish woman tell me I can't - hear my national anthem!!"

"Should it not seem obvious - that a healthy society is one which welcomes the maintenance of change!"

"Brilliant deduction, Watson. This guy's a genius!"

"Yeah I, I think he's got a degree from college or something."

"I feel strange. It's as if a set of values were creeping into my head..."

"Hi, Yuk!!" (Friends' cat)

"There seems to be a revolution of individuality here! Shouldn't we be considerate to let those who seem left out - those who feel encroached upon by the throes of conformity and drive-thru existence - in on the beauty of this new charge of great events - that are directing us to the freedom of spirit for which we all yearn!!!"

"Thanks!"

Subtle Gluttony

Written By: Matt Foy

There's plenty on the table.
You can eat it all, if you're able.
But take only what you need; and the rest will go in the bird feed!

Get what you can while you can;
'cause it might not be here tomorrow!

Oh, Oh. Oh, whoa.

There's plenty on the table.
You can eat it all, if you're able.
But take only what you need; and the rest will go in the bird feed!

Oh, Whoa...

Get what you can while you can 'cause it might not last!!

Oh, oh...Oh, Whooooaaa.. Yah!!

Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya Ya
ya ya ya ya ya ya ya Ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya Ya
ya ya ya ya ya ya ya Ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Ya Ya ya ya ya ya ya Ya
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya

There's plenty, don't waste it!
'Cause you might not have any more;
might not ever get any more!

Ninety Seven. Ninety Eight. Ninety Nine. One Hundred.

Da da da, da da da.
Da da da, da da da.
Da da da, da da da.
Da da da, da da da.

Da da da, da da da.
Da da da, da da da.
Da da da, da da da.
Da da da, da da da.

I walked into Burger King one day.
I got some french fries; and I threw them away.

Then I ate half a burger; and I threw it away!

Set List

The best answer right now would be to say that the client should submit a "wish" set list and I will consult with the client about which tunes are ready to go and which will have to be distributed and rehearsed. We have roughly 500 songs ready to go on call. Many more can be prepared on a moment's notice.
