Feeling a bit camera shy

Described as a Dub/Funk Post-punk extravaganza, Sock Hop Arousal's influences fuse the deep 70's dub of King Tubby, Lee Perry with the angular funk attack of Gang of Four, Pop Group and the moody atmospherics of Bristol trip hop. The unique and compelling groove is embellished with lyrical content expressing a perspective of post-modern existential bewilderment. Sock Hop Arousal have recorded a seven song EP entitled Bonobo-A-Go-Go and are moving if not towards world domination than at least to a position in which they are less submissive than present. Influenced by neither death nor disco, the band embarked on a mission to make audiences both think and dance in a manner in which one does not interfere with the other.

The band is composed of powerful rhythm section Adrian Stickland (drums) and Chris Dowling (bass) known locally as the Sly and Robbie of Guelph Ontario. Tania Siwick’s soulful and evocative vocals contrast and compliment the heavy rhythms and syncopated bass lines. Friends Alun Piggins (guitar) and Marc Meyer (keyboards) assisted in the development of the sound and recording of a CD. The recent addition of Charlena Russell (violin, vocals, trumpet) adds extra depth and atmosphere to the Sock Hop Arousal sonic landscape.

The band has been playing venues throughout southern Ontario, reaching out into the world in ever widening circles gathering momentum and fans. Although perhaps not the next big thing they are definitely a thing of reasonable proportion somewhere further down the line from next but not quite so far down that they would get impatient waiting.
