Bio
¡Socorro! is a five-piece Los Angeles band delivering tight-yet-jangly, infectious California pop, featuring bittersweet hooks and warm, strong male-female vocal harmonies.
¡Socorro! was formed in its earliest incarnation in 2007, when songwriter Guy Valdez drew inspiration from a $5 miniature acoustic guitar from historic L.A. tourist mecca Olvera Street, and comprised a band of his fellow employees at a Pasadena art-house movie theater. After creating music together after-hours (in a makeshift recording studio Valdez discreetly built inside the theater), what began as a mellow, mini-acoustic guitar-driven solo project evolved to attain its current eclectic sound, backed by live conga and bongo drums, electric slide guitar and bass.
Although ¡Socorro! maintains an earnest pop-rock sound (influenced by The Kinks, "Magical Mystery Tour"-era Beatles, and harmonious early 90's rock), its genre stands in stark contrast to Valdez's earlier projects; he is also co-founder of instrumental cinematic noise-attack band The Antarcticans. In addition to The Antarcticans, ¡Socorro! includes members of The Crooked Cowboy and The Black Pine. Their debut EP, "You're Are Beautiful," was released on The New Black Records in January 2009.
¡Socorro! is currently in the studio recording their first full-length album, to be released in 2011.
