"Glowing reviews for sophomore single "Carnival""

"We bookend The Matinee with another little band that captivated us, although this happen just 6 weeks ago when Solarflairs released the uplifting, power-pop number “Spirit of Johnny”. Their new single, “Carnival”, is another power-pop masterpiece. This time, however, they take a more haunting yet scintillating approach that resonates with the dreamy power of ’80s bands The Bangles and Berlin. The shimmering guitars are terrific, and frontwoman Elisabeth Eickhoff’s voice is more lush, thus sucking you in further into the emotional minefield of “Carnival”.

What’s next for the band is unknown, but after two remarkable singles the only thing that should be left before them is stardom." - The Revue

"Powerpopulist reviews "Spirit of Johnny""

Long-distance information came from Memphis, Tennessee heralding the advent of a hot little trio of powerpoppers called "Solarflairs." On the very first listen to "Spirit of Johnny" we knew we had to have it and were therefore grateful when vocalist/bassist Elisabeth Eickhoff said we could. Even better, she said you could, too, so check out the widget below. That Elisabeth, guitarist/backing vocalist Greg Gentry, and drummer Mario Aviles are firing up more tuneage for imminent release only serves to whet our appetite for more! - Powerpopulist

"Solarflairs on "Pure Pop Radio""

Solarflairs | “Spirit of Johnny” Memphis, Tennessee’s Solarflairs, fronted by bass player Elisabeth Eickhoff, who also handles lead vocals, hits big right out of the gate with this powerful mid-tempo ballad, a catchy number with great vocal harmonies in the choruses. An understated U2 guitar approach (really) adds an interesting and effective layer to the proceedings. Good work; we look forward to the next release. - Alan Haber's Pure Pop Radio

"Single review: Solarflairs' "Spirit of Johnny""

Discovered via Twitter – a power pop band that incorporates the BIG MUSIC of the 80s, kinda like The Knack mashed up with U2.

Which all makes for an intriguing sound, for sure. This debut single pulls it off as well. Looking forward to more music from Solarflairs! - Power of Pop

"The Revue reviews "Spirit of Johnny""

To end today’s mini-playlist, we need something to brighten up the day. Memphis-based trio Solarflairs are just the solution. Their latest single, “Spirit of Johnny”, is a scintillating, guitar-driven, power-pop track that recalls the great ballads of the indie-pop of the late ’80s and early ’90s. Their approach might remind you of The Martinis, but there are traces of other influences. For instance, if you listen closely, the guitar melody during the song’s slower parts echoes of U2’s early hit “Bad”. For Solarflairs, “Spirit of Johnny” just might be their hit single.

Solarflairs are Greg Gentry, Mario Aviles, and Elisabeth Eickhoff. This is one cool band. - The Revue

Bio

Solarflairs are a band from Memphis, Tennessee that doesn't sound that way.  Instead, they call the “Big Music” of the alternative 80’s their main influences rather than the usual local suspects.  But, if as Bono of U2 once declared, “the goal is soul”, then solarflairs stand firmly in the shadows of those iconic Memphis artists, reaching for that same goal.  Serving the SONG is also the goal of the band: well-crafted songs are the basis for their expansive sound.

Bassist, lead vocalist, and native Memphian Elisabeth Eickhoff propels the songs along with melodic, memorable bass lines and a voice that is solidly her own. Greg Gentry (guitars and backing vocals) is still inventing for himself the notion of what a “guitar hero” should be - counting the Edge, Johnny Marr, and Paul Westerberg as his inspirations.

Elisabeth and Greg are a longstanding partnership. Together they fronted the Atlanta -based band Nillah with critically-acclaimed CD’s The Power of Pop (Shut Eye Records) and The Sun Show (Two Sheds Records), which spawned a devoted following.  Nillah also tucked performances at the CMJ Music Conference in New York City and Atlanta’s Music Midtown Festival under their collective belt.  After Greg and Elisabeth’s relocation to Memphis in 2014, they conceived of a revised musical direction and solarflairs was born.  The band’s first single release, “The Spirit of Johnny”, is due out in February 2016.
