SolarFlare: A massive burst of energy. An explosion of force. An L.A.-based power trio that's tight, edgy and streetwise.

SolarFlare is angsty and aggressive. SolarFlare rocks out. Jams out. Runs the gamut. Tastes of punk and funk, glam and psychedelic. Heavy and atmospheric.

If the visceral intensity of SolarFlare's "Chotto Matte" doesn't get you where you live, better check your pulse.
- by Laurel Fishman, Los Angeles Music Journalist

In a musical culture where lyrics like "Don’t cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me" belong in a hit, "Sunshine" by SolarFlare casts a refreshing light. Ben Hunter (vocals/guitars), Catfish McGee (bass) and Sam Pow (drums) are a tight and committed crew with undeniable chemistry and a rare mastery of the three R's of rock — raw, relentless and real.

At 11 minutes and 16 seconds, "Sunshine" is filled with enough solar-plexus-pulsing instrumental passages that it will really take you places, if you can override your three-minute attention span. And take this from "The Great Divide":

"On the Lear jet runway
The CEO gives a backwards glance.
He mutters, "This country’s toast.
See you, Congressman, and thanks!"

Live onstage, SolarFlare are as high-energy as their name suggests. Hunter as front man, cuts a classic, if demonic-featured rock figure. Think Anthony Kiedis meets Neil Young. You don’t run across a band like this very often these days, and change like that is good. As the lyrics go in "Kiss of Time":

"What if nothing ever changed
And you always stayed the same?
What if you forgot your name?
When they called you no one came, no one came." - by Laurence Cruz, Los Angeles Freelance Writer

"SOLARFLARE" is the name of the band's self-titled 15-song debut. SOLARFLARE is currently recording this collection in Los Angeles.

Three versatile L.A. indie rockers with original chops who play frenetic, kinetic, eclectic rock for the planet.
