Sol Eq and J-Barz

Hailing from Los Angeles, Sol Eq is an MC and producer with a unique vision and sense of responsibility to the craft of Hip Hop rarely seen in today’s music market. Though not easily pigeonholed to the title of “Conscious” rapper, Sol maintains a social awareness while still delivering hard hitting uncompromising lyrics.

Sol started MCing and producing just before beginning school at Ex’Pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville, where he met fellow musical talent, J-Barz. At first, Sol did not expect to take the route of an MC as a serious journey, but shortly after writing his first couple full songs, the love took over: “I always saw myself more as a producer in the early days. But as I would make beats words would just come to me and I couldn’t deny it. I had to keep writing.”

While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in sound engineering, Sol stayed busy developing his craft, songwriting both solo and collaborative works, largely in part with J-Barz. As songs began to organically emerge, the two began performing at a variety of different venues around the Bay Area.
