Due to the band members' extensive backgrounds in the music business, SOLID STATE leans more toward the unexpected as a means of expressing and exploring music. These innovative compositions are rooted in the foundations of classic jazz combined with a contemporary rhythmical approach, leaning toward non-repetitive melodies and greater overall tonal variation. They combine any and all elements of Swing, Latin, Funk, Blues and Bebop, along with some haunting ballads. The band's horns lend themselves to the creation of unusual blends of melodies and interesting textures. Musical influences run from Miles Davis to Bela Bartok, Jimi Hendrix to Joe Pass, Brecker Brothers to Paul Desmond, Jimmy Smith to Bill Evans, and Hank Williams to Stevie Wonder. The goal is to provide a comfortable yet innovative listening listening experience... one that stays close enough to home so as not to be dissonant or cacophonous, but adventurous and challenging to those willing to join us on the ride.
