Bio

 Teenage guitar prodigy/singer Solomon Hicks - known by fans in Harlem as “King Solomon,” ‘lil B.B.” or “East Montgomery” - Solomon has been playing guitar for 13 years. An eclectic musician, Solomon excels at a number of styles ranging from Jazz, Blues, Classical, Gospel, R&B, Funk and Classic Rock. He studied Jazz, Classical and Afro-Cuban guitar at Harlem's School of the Arts and the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, and has attended Jazzmobile and Barry Harris’ Bebop workshops. .

 

            Several newspapers and magazines have written about Solomon’s extraordinary talents, including The Washington Post, New York Daily News.  His story has also received coverage on ABC, News channel 12 and multiple public access programs.

 

            Solomon got his start performing at Harlem’s historic New Amsterdam Musical Association (NAMA) and on Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater. His biggest gigs to date include performances at the United Nations, the 2009 U.S. Open, MetLife Stadium, Madison Square Garden, where he played a show during a 2010 New York Knicks game. He has had the honor of performing for former Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion in New York City and has also played for former Governor of New York David Patterson, Dr. Billy Taylor and Congressman Charlie Rangel. He has performed live on radio stations WLIB, Mt. Vernon WVOX and WHCR 90.3. WBGO jazz 88.3 plays his cd.

 

            Solomon can be seen currently performing on EUROPEAN tours. He is at B.B.Kings on Tuesdays several times a month, (w/the Harlem Blues Band). Red Rooster (Harlem 125th st.) on Sundays, Terra Blues (in the village), Shanghai Jazz Club (Madison, New Jersey) and several days a week with the All Stars Band at the legendary Cotton Club. A year after joining the Cotton Club All Stars as lead guitarist at age 13, Solomon recorded his 1rst cd, entitled "Embryonic."  His 2nd CD, “CARRYING ON THE TORCH OF THE BLUES”. Recorded at age 18, can be download on iTunes and CD Baby.

 

            In 2008, Solomon won the Jazz Excellence Award/Scholarship from the Friendly 50 Club Organization. He is also the AUDELCO “Rising Star” Honoree for the 2009-10 ‘VIV’ Award for Jazz/Music Performance. J. Walter Thompson's Differenter Committee chose Solomon as one of their nine "Innovators of Change" in 2012, filming him and four other recipients as the subject of a documentary on New York’s most accomplished and creative African-American citizens.
