Bio
Dreamy vocals, swirling guitar and a fusion of haunting and hopeful lyrics create the atmospheric sound of solo sol. Labeling the music with a specific genre makes for a fun challenge but if you're up for it, you can imagine a house party with guests like Mazzy Star, Mojave 3, Yo La Tengo, Belle & Sebastian, and Cowboy Junkies combined with 60's psychedelic pop vibe creating the feel and tone one band member calls "space folk."
This is what happens when you take a couple of music freak vinyl collectors, a laid back, yoga-loving music teacher, a confident, take-no-prisoners computer programmer and a stay-at-home psychologist with a girl crush on Natalie Merchant. Since December 2008, the members of solo sol have collaborated on new melodies, sounds and lyrics. The songs developed organically with one member offering up a melody and another plugging in lyrics and vice versa.
When a long list of original songs was realized it was time to record. The three tracks for the first release of solo sol's EP, Chocolate Shavings were laid down in the comfort of a friend's living room.
