"EP Review - Insurgency 2006"

This Newcastle based act once known as Extorition have had a bit of a style change with their recent name change to Solver. I remember their last release as Extortion being quite impressive, and this one is just another step forward for the guys. This time around it's much more pop rock in style, recorded by the ever busy Phil McKellar, the production side of things was in capable hands and sounds a treat. Smooth catchy power poppy numbers like 'Angels Cry' & 'One Step Too Far' are instant highlights, especially the awesome vocals and songwriting. This is the perfect cd for the times you just want something not so energetic but not soft either. It sounds a treat and grows on you more and more each listen. If someone was taking bets I wouldn't mind having a flutter on these guys to make some waves with this release. Very impressive.

Bio

"The great thing about these guys is that they really are a power 3pce, I think they represent Australian rock beautifully!"
Producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith (JET, The Dandy Warhols, Young Heartattack)

"I think these guys have everything going for them musically and with two brothers and a best mate since kindergarten you know there's a rapport."
Producer Mark Opitz (ACDC, KISS, INXS, The Divynls, Rose Tattoo)

Morgan, Tom & Nick started the band at the ages of 13 & 11 inspired by their hometown heroes Silverchair!

The band quickly went from playing local pubs and high school dances to touring nationally after winning Australia's biggest unsigned band competition, MusicOZ, ahead of over 5000 other entries!

In 2007 the band decided to take a break which allowed SOLVER singer-guitarist Morgan Evans to dedicate some time to his other passion - Country Music.

For two years Morgan toured as a solo artist with the likes of Taylor Swift, Brooks'n'Dunn & Gary Allan. He had a #1 Country Radio & Country Music TV hit in Australia and was invited to perform at LP Field in Nashville as part of the CMA Festival.

In 2009, over a few beers in Newcastle, Morgan, Tom & Nick decided that it was time to revisit the rehearsal room as a Rock'n'Roll band!

The music came naturally and since then SOLVER haven't wasted any time...

They released a self-titled EP late last year, produced by Mark Opitz (ACDC, INXS, The Divinyls), and have spent the last ten months touring Australia playing almost 100 shows.

SOLVER also spent a week in The Solomon Islands and a week in East Timor with the Australian Defence Force on a Tour Of Duty to entertain Australian & NZ troops.

Late in 2009 songs from the SOLVER EP caught the ears of US heavy weight Sandy Roberton at Worlds End Management.

Sandy loved the songs and introduced SOLVER to young Texan producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith.

After numerous phone conversations, sharing music & demos etc. the band jumped a plane to Austin TX to record three tracks with Chris "Frenchie" Smith at his studio "The Bubble".

Since then Chris "Frenchie" Smith has been garnering label interest for SOLVER in North America.

Peter Cohen at Austrade, The Australian Government's Exporting Body, has also come on board to assist the band in finding a bigger market in the US.

With the fresh Frenchie Smith recordings & on the wave of this hype, SOLVER plan to showcase for US College entertainment buyers at the NACA Conference in February, and again at SXSW in March.
