"Soma city"

I spent a little time with the Soma City EP Ties That Bind and can see where there’s something to get excited about. The four-song demo has intriguing ideas and generates ample power; it’s not even badly recorded for a demo. Led by Bryan Cordeiro and lead guitarist Ian Haggerty, Soma City recalls early ’90s powerhouses like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, with strong song structures, solid playing, and a good grasp of dynamics. The demo kicks off with the title track, which really ramps it up around the three-minute mark with an alteration of the main Ziff and a s[eet guitar {olo. Feeling a bit camera shy

Bio

The feeling is like getting rifled out of a black powder muzzleloader. Once the thick smoke settles and you pick yourself up off the ground from the mighty recoil, you gaze ahead at the devastating energy that just rocked you to the bone. You’ve just been struck by the Soma City experience.

Who is Soma City? Bryan Cordeiro, fronting the band on lead vocals, is accompanied by Ian Haggerty on lead guitar, Josh Floriano on rhythm guitar and vocals, James Thompson on bass, and Danny DeMelo on drums and keyboard. All five guys were in various local acts and needed more to quench their rock star thirst. James joined Ian, Josh, and Danny in mid 2004. Bryan came along in early 2005 and as they say, the rest will be history.

The members of Soma City have considerable experience in the music industry as a successful leading local act with moderate experience playing venues outside of the New England scene. Opening for national acts such as Candlebox, Static X, Tantric, Skid Row, Bio Hazard, Powerman 5000, Slash from Gun’s & Roses, etc., has given the band a small taste of what the future has in store for them.

“We have all the ingredients to be a good band, but we also have the “X” factor that will make us a great band!” says Ian Haggerty. He describes the “X” factor as that edge you have to have where hard work will only get you so far and rest you have to fight to the death for. Add hooks that get stuck in your head for days, plus blues infested riffs, some powerful and heavy hitting rhythm beats, then toss in a little of the “X” factor, and you have a band that just might be able to match up to the musical icons we all love.

Soma City’s mission is to remind people that the gritty rock & roll shows and the dirty raw sounds are still alive and flowing. Soma’s newly released EP titled, “Ties That Bind”, was produced and engineered by John Marques and co-produced by Soma City & Lucky Rhyno Management at Dynamix Studios in Fall River, MA. Their four song EP is a taste of what’s in store for the new full length album the band is eager to start recording. All music was written by Soma City and all lyrics were written by Bryan Cordeiro. The purpose of this EP is to help recruit more fans and to shop the labels for a contract.

Bryan is often heard saying, “Music is the universal language everybody can understand”. He is chopping at the bit to spread the Soma City message to the masses. This is a sound all of the working class will relate to the most. Soma City is looking forward to getting the opportunity to start touring to other parts of the country and world that have yet to hear and feel the Soma City Experience. This band was bred for the road.
