"Sombulance - The Wedgewood Rooms Devils Roadshow 25/02/07"

Impressively, Sombulance’s debut gig was opening the most recent offering of The Devil’s Roadshow. Although after the gripping and fast paced intro for Airstrip One, it was plain they would do far more than open it; they set the bar, if not the tone for all that followed. While local scene followers may recognise members from bands such as Play with Fire and Onewordanswer, based on tonight’s performance it seems that they have come into this line-up with a clean slate and a renewed passion.

From the off, Sombulance's influences from fast and technical punk are clearly established. The fourth song, Turning Red, one of the highlights of the set, with its Rise Against style intro, further emphasises this, although to excessively pinpoint influences within Sombulance's music would only undermine each musician’s influence on the overall sound and presentation.

It is the band’s enthusiasm for their chosen genre that makes them so appealing. Although they were a relative unknown amongst this crowd, they proved that they have what it takes to gain a stronger fan-base from their upcoming mini tour. With a live sound that is reminiscent of bands such as Strung Out, Thrice and Strike Anywhere and with vocals that also provide a modern take on 70s street punk, they’re sure to sate any audience’s thirst for this style of music. - Manifesto Magazine

Bio

i'll start by saying the struggle putting this band together has probably taken years off my life, haha and we've always persisisted due to a love of punk... and to keep us sane.
Me (ant) and jon met at university on the south coast through an appreciation of pulley and zerodown. we started jamming and another guy joined who was into lagwagon. a few line up changes later, thom found us from our early demos on myspace. he had a friend at college (craig) who was into punk and it all came together. chris is the most recent addition to the sombulance crew, he came to one of our shows, learnt all the songs and he played with us a week later! Within the last year we have played all across the UK, played some shows in Europe and supported A wilhelm scream, No trigger, Set Your Goals and You Me and the Atom Bomb (uk) as well as many other awesome unknown bands.
Our main influences are propagandhi, strung out and belvedere. we like to think we play progressive punk and try to avoid being generic in our writing process. we dont do happy, all of songs pack a punch and our singers gruff portsmouth accented vocals is what gives us our edge!
