SSN started in France in 2003 as a group of friends from various backgrounds. Toulouse being land of Airbus (international plane manufacturer) Alex an American from California ended up in the same class as Stefan who was half English and half French and Lucas who was pure francais. .the friends discovered they had a common passion for music and started making basic instrumental styled beats with illegally downloaded software’s such as Fuity loops and cubase. Recording in their bedrooms, raps they had written they eventually produced and locally released their first project in 2006.
The 23 track demo was recorded at home while trying to succeed their final years of high school. They performed at community events and school events, local bars in town. They invited friends to feature on the album either to record raps or instrumentations, full of insides jokes and high school humour, the album “home made” allowed them to express themselves and inspired them to develop their love for making music.
Eventually Bean successfully finished high school and moved to the UK, in Liverpool, to study audio engineering and music production. Alex and K remained in France to finish their high school education. A year later K eventually graduated but Alex failed and decided to move to the UK and joined the same school as bean to be able to keep making music and improve his production skills. K remained in France to further his studies but continued making music as a hobby.
The group began a new project. After 12 month of sharing instrumentals and ideas via the internet because of the long distance they gradually created enough material to create their first 18 track LP My truest thoughts. The majority of the album was produced in Liverpool however certain instrumentals and various recording such as vocals and scratches were created and recorded in France. In March 2008, they returned to Toulouse to promote their album. They appeared on local radios such as Campus FM, Booster and performed at Rag time a reputed local hip hop venue. Shortly after K failed his studies and decided to regroup with Alex and bean in Liverpool.
In the UK, the band continued to perform in local venues, the live show consisted of Alex and k rapping over instrumentals played by bean on samplers and dj software such as ableton. They eventually met Greg Molder and Paul shrive who offered to professionally record and produce their first debut album and allowed them to feature on charity albums such as Perfect Day, an album dedicated to the Rhys Jones memorial foundation which made it to number 2 in the Tesco download charts.
Over the next couple of years the group recorded tracks and developed their live performance. The opportunity of recording their tracks in a real studio allowed them to meet and work with other artists. From these collaborations they developed a relationship with bassist j. Kenny and drummer, M Wallace who started to rehearse with the group on a regular basis. Will, Alex’s brother left California after difficulties within the family and joined the group shortly after to play the guitar. The hip hop trio then became a 7 piece band when N Spoff a local Liverpool bird was the last to become a member and joined after recording vocals and harmonies on our songs.
