"Waltz With Me - Rave Child record review"

‘Waltz With Me’ is the first single from indie-folk trio Something, Someone.

Perhaps obviously, the song is in three quarters and the acoustic guitar leads in, gently nailing down the rhythm.

The focal point comes from the vocals of Morgan Woods (the hook melody in the chorus being a highlight), and a cleverly written harmony arrangement with band mates Joe Djaelani and Rachel Elliot allows the song to breathe and progress naturally, showing a mature approach to composition.

Djaelani’s part in particular brings about new imagery and another dimension to the song’s already wistful personality, along with mandolin, this adds to a very pleasant climax.

The production is worth a mention too, a good amount of reverb on the instruments and vocals, and a professional sounding mix that proves once again how possible it is to produce a well-rounded and impressive sounding piece of music without an astronomical recording budget. - Rave Child

"XFM Breakout Track"

My XFMbreakout on @XFMScotland drivetime today is the beautiful collaboration between Something, Someone. & Charly Houston. - Jim Gellatly

"Something, Someone. play Sophie Rogers launch - Live Review"

Oh rain, why dost thou hate me so much? Is it not enough that your mere presence in this time continuum makes precipitation less natural than downright vengeful. That said, there is poetry to be found in all that make you damp.
With that in mind, it’s not often that you get to draw John Keats into a review of music in dear old Glasgow but there it was and there it will always be slap bang right in front of me. With but the blur that accompanies wholesomeness to affect my focus, Something Someone took the concept of three and made it real whilst the force of their mellow musical infidelities in “Waltz With Me” easily evoked thoughts of the season of mist and mellow fruitfulness. The case is closed with judgement in their favour.
Hold out your hand out now and give thanks for Sophie Rogers was ready and able to follow through. Rearming herself with three musical handguns for company, she hit the target with a selection of mainstream songs, including her single “Devil’s In The Details”, that should soon find favour with, well, the mainstream. Although sometimes unjustifiably unsure of herself, she was clearly more than capable of standing tall in the company of the likes of Jill Jackson or Greta Morgan should that be her will. The future is so bright that she will no doubt have to wear designer shades.
The cat’s in the cradle, there’s a pickled onion in the chips and Shandon’s stout makes a more than adequate replacement for Guinness. That's enough for now. Exit stage left. - Blues Bunny

"Something, Someone. - Single launch live review"

It’s Monday night and the great philosophers of the world are considering matters of deeper meaning whilst those of us blessed with a desire for cirrhosis of the liver find ever more complex excuses to consume alcohol. Tonight’s excuse, albeit complete with artistic merits, came courtesy of Something Someone, Miss Irenie Rose, Jason Riddell, Sophie Rogers and Black and White Boy.
Pouring the first metaphorical pint was Black and White Boy. Being one man and a guitar, his introspection was perhaps no surprise and his understated performance similarly reflected his desire to express inner torment rather than to provide candy for the ears.
Round number two was left to Jason Riddell. His fondness for off key whistling provided an unwittingly appropriate accompaniment to the wandering pitch that stamped his vocal style. He was not, therefore, a voice for everyman but, if your musical tastes drift sympathetically towards universal tolerance then Mr Riddell could well be your carry out of choice.
Sophie Rogers, on the other hand, took her heart to the bar and exchanged it for songs that would, in all likelihood, intoxicate you. Undoubtedly, she had learned the value of making songs that would appeal to the mainstream and, with her talent for making an audience into friends also never less than obvious, Ms Rogers should easily hold your attention all the way to closing time.
Talking of intoxication, Miss Irenie Rose would make anyone with a heart raise a glass or three to her talent. Showing an affinity for both matters acoustic and loop pedal, her voice danced over her songs like she had been blessed with the pagan power to invoke joy through the simple expedient of making music. She was, to put it simply, enchanting.
The last drink of the night came from Something Someone. As those who drink know, sentimentality is something that can often strike a melancholic chord as the evening merges into the night. Duly, Something Someone, three nice people honest and true, demonstrated that the temptations of temperance could compete with mere intoxication and, with the kind of meshed vocals that could easily become their trademark, they held sway over an audience that seemed driven to treat them as if they were family. “Waltz With Me”, their single, was a fine example of their respect for matters melodic and as fine a soundtrack to that last dance as your heart might want.
Goodnight sweetheart goodnight. - Blues Bunny

"Something, Someone play Strange Behaviours festival."

Ahead of their performance at Strange Behaviours, Something, Someone’s Morgan Woods spoke to the News.

Morgan (vocals/bass), who lives in Alloa, formed the band after coming across Joe Djaelani (vocals/guitar) on Gumtree and Rachel Elliot (vocals/fiddle) on Facebook.
Are you excited about your Tolbooth gig?
Yes, we’re really excited. The Tolbooth is a beautiful venue. The line-up looks great and Kenny, the guy who is organising it, is really great to work with.
What do you like about performing live?
I love the buzz I get from it. The atmosphere and the stage banter is always fun. Anything can happen on stage, you’ve just got to roll with it, which can be interesting.
What do you like about recording in a studio?
There’s a lot of room to experiment with instrumentation and it’s just really nice to hear a song once it’s the finished product because I’ve seen it grow and become something more than some words scribbled on a piece of paper.
What can audiences expect from your set if they haven’t seen you in action before?
We always try to put on a high-energy performance for every gig. You’ll normally get some banter and bad jokes in between songs. Joe and Rachel are two fantastic musicians. Joe’s guitar playing and singing is fantastic and Rachel is an unbelievable fiddle player with some lovely harmonies.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Tough question. I’d probably say just getting to play and release my own music – which is quite a broad answer, but it’s hard to pin point.
Where do you find inspiration to write your own material?
Mainly things that happen in my life. Dreams are always a good place for inspiration because it’s unlimited.
What’s your plans for the next 12 months?
We have big plans, but you’ll just have to keep an eye out to find out more.

Favourite band/musician; This is a tough one. Eddi Reader is a big influence. Really into King Charles at the moment. Also Rachel Sermanni and my good friend Miss Irenie Rose.
Day or night; My mum calls me a nighthawk, that annoys her a lot.
Favourite season; Festival season.
Favourite superhero; Wonder Woman.

Favourite TV show; Oh so many out at the moment. Hannibal is great, American Horror Story, The Following and Game of Thrones. - Stirling News

"Waltz With Me - Record review"

Three folk
Something, Someone are a Scottish folk trio with an appealing line in sentimentality that runs like melted chocolate through the lyrics of their song “Waltz With Me”. It’s a boy meets girl kind of song, of course, and the winsome and sugar sweet female vocals provide the cherry on the cake. - Blues Bunny
