"Indie Seen"

SOMETHING YOU WHISPER
It’s not often you find anything more in Ayr then, well, air, but a four–piece has emerged that are trekking their way through the indie gigs with a sleeve full of solid pop singles that get stuck in your head and you find yourself singing along to them. The four guys who comprise Something You Whisper are earning a reputation as solid songwriters and as equally memorable showmen, and the band is ready to pull out all the stops to open for Final Thought on April 21. As comfortable on–stage as off, SYW peg themselves as “extremely hard working individuals” who “share a passion for music and their enthusiasm for reaching their dreams is infectious to everyone who meets them.” And as they dream to make it to the big time in Canada, they’re proving themselves on the beaten track by performing reputable gigs such as their stint at the Hard Rock Cafe in Toronto. With wide–ranging musical influences from Metallica to Blink 182, they’re garnering real support from fans who are eating up their latest single “Who I Am”. “There’s a lot of good talent in the area,” says Tom McArthur of the churning indie scene. “The only problem with our scene is the lack of a good venue to play all the shows and the lack of a good promoter booking agent. If these things become available, the bands from the KW region will really be showcased!” And while SYW perfect their live show to be a high energy party that is as equal to the sound recording you’ll get off of the record, they’re out snagging the gigs to gear up for their CD release party due May 29 at the Warehouse in Cambridge. “Play a lot of shows, make sure as many people as possible hear your music and fall in love with your band,” McArthur says, “Also, never push away a handshake at a show; you never know who people are and the music industry is all about who you know!” Take it from the boys, and hear them live on April 21 at Maxwell’s Music House with Final Thought and Pocket City. "Ayr band gets ready for life on the road"

It’s a seminal experience for any fledgling rock band: two months in a van. Ayr rockers Something You Whisper are about to have that experience.
The young pop rock group is heading out on its first national tour next month.
All five members will be in the van together for five months. There’s no going back now, said drummer Tom McArthur.
“We’re anxious, but we bought our van and our trailer and we’re ready to go,” McArthur said.
The band has a little experience with the road life. Earlier this year, they toured between Cambridge and Winnipeg.
“There’s always going to be little arguments, but for the most part we get along pretty well,” McArthur said.
Something You Whisper is looking to build its reputation with the tour. The band is trying to get the word out about its music.
“It’s your normal pop rock, but it’s got more of an edge to go with today’s more hardcore music styles,” McArthur said.
Today, there are endless ways to get music distributed.
“ITunes and the Internet has opened up a lot of doors for a lot of variables in music,” he said.
“A lot more things can be considered popular music. Everyone is exposed to every kind of music.
In that atmosphere, it can simultaneously be harder and easier for bands to make a name for themselves.
“A lot of bands get lost in the shuffle,” McArthur said. “You have to put yourself into the spotlight. Sometimes you have to make a big splash and do something that not everyone does.”
The tour is Something You Whisper’s biggest venture yet.
The band’s last local show is June 27 at the 515 Club in Hespeler. Something You Whisper will be opening for current “MuchMusic darlings” These Kids Wear Crowns.
“We’ve been given a great opportunity to play with them and get a bit of attention,” McArthur said.
When it wraps up, the band will be sticking around in Waterloo Region, some members starting their post-secondary education and others.
The band also plans to record an EP in the fall.

"Local Band 'Something You Whisper' Charms Rock The Mill"

While this event may not be for everyone it reflects youth's right to take centre stage, in civic square where society as a whole is entitled to air not only their concerns, but to put forth ideas which can lead to change...even if it means screaming them at the top of your lungs--and then some.

Some of the shows were at once sobering, exhilarating and comical in make-up and execution.

If you were unsure if the present value system has its pitfalls, RTM was a wake-up call and demonstrates that not everyone subscribes to the Starbucks social club.

The talent ranged from extreme/scream hyper hip-hop wrap/rock alternative to tightly presented rock and alternative music with lyrics you are able to decipher and with a point.

In the late afternoon, several bands stood out: No Faith In Heros, Bound By Origins, Fallen Affliction, Pull Start Rockets, and especially Something You Whisper.

Fallen Affliction dared to include humour in their stage show and it worked. Pull Start Rockets were polished and mature musicians with very good vocals.

Something You Whisper showed great stage presence, strong writing abilities, and lyrics you could hear and be moved by... and they're synchronized body gyrations and dips struck a chord with the ladies.

If Something You Whisper gets serious with the opportunities coming their way, they could actually go places. They understand their generation and have the talent to put it to music which can lead to financial success with the right management. - Cambridge Now! Local News

Bio

Huge choruses and catchy hooks over top of a hard post-hardcore sound defines Something You Whisper best. 2012 has started out with a bang for the band as they have completed a 4 month high school with the non-profit organization "Live Different" spreading a message that tells students there is more to their life.

The end of 2011 marked also marked new high for “SYW”, releasing their new EP “Nostalgia” by playing a string of shows in Ontario including dates with industry heavy weights: We Came As Romans, Silverstein and Sleeping With Sirens. The new release, featuring 4 songs, was recorded with Jordan Valeriote at Sundown Studios (Silverstein, Dead and Divine, etc.) and mastered by Troy Glessner (August Burns Red, Anberlin, etc.) Hoping to push this new EP to the open ears of North America, SYW is taking their show on the road once again in early 2012, as a follow up to their past Ontario tours with bands such as Set It Off (Equal-Vision Records).

Catch SYW this summer so far playing a 2-week Southern Ontario Tour and Eastern Canada dates!
