Sona

BandJazzR&B

Close your eyes and go where Sona takes you on a journey beyond the surface. Powerful and descriptive, Sona has a voice reminensant of some of the greatest singers of our time, Ella, Sarah, Carmen, Peggy, Nancy, and the list goes on. Jazz, R&B and Pop Influenced, this voice needs to be heard.

Biography

Riding in the car with her four siblings, Sona was always told to shut up as she sang along with what ever song was playing on the radio. Singing since she was old enough to carry a tune, and the youngest of the brood, Sona was never discouraged. Singing was in her soul. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, a jazz town, it makes perfect sense that Jazz is her first love. One of her dad's closest friends had played for Billy Holiday whenever she came to town. 18th & Vine was the spot where it all happened. Sona traveled extensively after college, first touring overseas with the USO, then performing all over the United States with Bill Fegan Attractions out of Dallas, Texas, then forming and leading her own band in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Looking for something bigger and better, she migrated back to Kansas City where she married and started a family. Sona moved to Long Beach, California where she began singing and showcasing all over Los Angeles, looking for that "deal". Jazz deals were not the order of the day for a 24 year old singer, and most producers wanted her to go pop, ala Whitney Houston. Never wanting to compromise what was in her heart, Sona never gave in and continued to hone her skills as a jazz artist, and songwriter and arranger. Nowadays, Sona is a voice coach in the Inland Empire where she lives with her family, and she also co-manages a few young artists with her husband Keith under the moniker, Totalee Yôô-nék Entertainment. Life is busy and Sona's career has taken a back seat to the business of life as a very busy manager and creative director for TYE. She has managed to co-write and co-produce her upcoming debut EP and the offers to perform are now pouring in. "Everybody I know has been asking me when I was going to do a project of my own and just get out there. I just love the kids so much I always put them first. As a jazz artist, you just get better with time and most enthusiast just appreciate it for what it is, especially if its good. So I have really taken my time and I am very particular about who I work with because chemistry is critical.
