Sonámbulo, (“Sleepwalker”), began as a music project in early 2006. A creation of original music, fusing African, traditional and modern Latin American beats with a contemporary sound and aesthetic. From their authentic sound, predominantly driven by energetic dance rhythms and improvisational riffs, comes a new genre “psycho tropical”.

The band grew out of the circus performance art scene in Costa Rica. “Magos del Tiempo”, the first street circus formed by creative individuals from around the World, sought to recover the streets through performance art linked to social and environmental causes. Out of this same spirit the “psycho tropical” movement emerged and took shape from the representation and musicalization of dreams and stories of this circus. Sonámbulo expresses through their music and lyrics this unique genre.
“Our music’s ultimate goal is self expression and uninhibited dancing”.

The members of Sonámbulo come from Costa Rica, Cuba, Colombia and
El Salvador. This rich cultural mix is evident in their music, and combined with audience interaction, it creates a spectacle for all the senses.

At the end of 2009 Sonámbulo released their first album “A Puro Peluche”.
In 2010 Sonámbulo was awarded “Best Tropical Artist” for this album by “The Association of Composers and Musical Authors” (ACAM) in Costa Rica.

Today, Sonámbulo is immersed in the creative process of their second album. Through collaboration with local traditional artists Sonámbulo looks to root deeper in the origins of “psycho tropical” music.

Sonámbulo has performed on several environmental campaigns to help to preserve Costa Rican natural richness.
