Whenever I see Són Boom perform live, this song always gives me goosebumps; I think it’s about time all you Shufflers heard it!

This resonating track starts off simple, but it’s captivating. The harmonies are soft and sweet along with the acoustic guitar. The drums are merely an accent. But soon thereafter, you’ll notice a slow build to something gorgeous. Eli Recht’s vocals always blow me away and are the perfect compliment to Són Boom’s orchestral sound. There’s a definite reggae feel to this track too, but I heard a little jazz and a little soul rock as well. What an amazing mix, huh?

As you might’ve guessed, “Passionfruit” is very much aligned with the actual fruit — multi-colored, juicy, and sweet. With an emphasis on acoustic and guitar, guitar wahs, and a horn section, this is a quintessential reggae soul jam that will no doubt get your feet moving and your hips jiving. The angelic vocals and choral harmonies really add a delicate touch to the instrumentals; the many shifts within the song lend an engaging and captivating composition that leaves me thoroughly impressed.

Són Boom deserves some of the highest praise that I have to offer. Though there are times that I find myself at a loss for words, Són Boom really does offer up alittle bit of something for everyone. The band is as culturally diverse sounding as any subway car population. Really, at the end of the day the album seems to be entirely about loving life and feeling good. Recently the guys, who also run a collective called A Mini Tribe, through a DIY festival where the band blew my acid mind away. Each melodic pairing matches the track, matches the vocals, matches the entire feeling carries throughout the tracks. Keep your eyes open, Fuente is an album Dingus Records will be fighting to print on vinyl. - Dingus
