"THORNROSE Battle of the Bands"

– 6th Round – Black Dahlia
Here we go again……. Another bunch of bands all set to try make their music heard by the masses. First thing I ordered was

The 8 month old band called Sonder Apologie who hailed from Rustenburg consider their music to be “partjie metal” consisting of a punk/metal mix. The fucker rocked up with a HUGE speaker scaring the crap Pam the sound engineer and me…
Chad de Jager on Drums beat the introduction to Johann Nieuwenhuis the scream singer on Vocals who brought in the song ”Die Aand Stoot”.
Cute pretty boy Ettienne Roux guited his rhythem style into the song “Baie Dankie’... Which was nicely rounded off with the hard and impressive style of this well received Afrikaans band Sonder Apologie .
“Gerus” brought out the scream in Johann and the fingers of Hein Grobler on Lead Guitar, accompanied by the double kicker of Chad …. By this point I am still waiting for the Punk in their music to show its ugly head. But what it did was allow the bassist Jaco Visser to bang his ol’ klunker to his plectrum work. The “Placebo” effect has really taken toll on the style of a lot of the musicians out there and the intro to “Genoeg” was no exception, but transformed into their own feel through the skilled musicality and audible lyrics coupled with a Not to shabby voice… So far I am impressed with these guys and have no hesitation in recommending them for a gig… These dudes even brought their own lighting…. **Rustenburg take care of their own I see**
Their finale “Anargie” had rhythm guit Ettienne and Chad intro with sexy finger and one hard fuck out of the drum kit, perhaps this being the only punk-ish style tonight so they should consider not including themselves in that genre; though there was a consistent delivery from this fledgling band, keep it up boys! (and not to mention that the crowd really liked them too)

Bio

Sonder Apologie started out by pure chance. Once called Loganhill with Louis Breedt on vocals and guitar, the band was light rock leaning alot on the Seether side of things. Later on Louis left the band for personal reasons and it was just Jaco, Hein and Chad....they decided to go heavy but with no vocalist and missing a rythm guitarist progress proved a shlep.....(NOT everyone is as good as Dimebag!)

4 months later the guys auditioned some musos and still hadnt found what they were looking for. Funny enough our vocalist Johan auditioned on guitar but nothing happened of it! lol! A few months passed and the next thing Johan and Hein were hanging out in the soundroom conversing and writing songs. Chad and Jaco got word that the two were "bonding" in a musical sense.( lol! ) and It wasnt long before Johans vision and drive caught on to the rest of the guys. With Johan now on vocals things started to gain momentum and it wasnt long before Johan introduced the band to Ettiene...now A.K.A Pretty Fingers. Whats awesome about Ettiene is his picknig speed on guitar and mixed with Heins natural ability to shred, the two guitarists form the core element of the band.

Sonder Apologie is no less than a year old. With an up and coming Ep and gigs coming up next year, the band is looking forward to the new year. Johan describes the sound as paartjie metal. Simply put, no one knows which genre the sound of Apologie falls into. Saying that, the band doesnt wish to be categorised. "You dont know what to expect with our music" comments Chad. "One minute its a feel good punk groove and the next its straight metal with the screams, down tuned guitars and double bass filling in." Fusing different styles is one of the ideals within everyone in the band. And shortly, on their upcoming Ep, this ideal will be showcased....
