Bio

Song of Return came to be from the writing partnership of Craig Grant & Chris Gordon, previously two thirds of
the creative force of Glasgow’s ‘Union of Knives’, who released the critically lauded album, “Violence & Birdsong”
on EMI.
The pair have undoubtedly drawn influence from their time working with such production giants as multi-platinum
selling British producer Steve Osborne (Elbow, Suede, New Order) & Oscar winning producer Atticus Ross
(OST The Social Network, OST The Book of Eli, Nine Inch Nails).
Now, having broken cover from the shadow of this previous project, Song of Return bring together a here and
now collection of unsettling dark sounds matched against light to dark vocals, sweeping harmonies & carved
melodies within an industrial post-rock frame. For live duties Craig is joined by members of Admiral Fallow, Other
People & Moon Unit.
Song of Return have received praise for their recorded work from broadsheets, podcasts & blogs, as well as for
their ‘got-to-be-seen’ live show that has graced stages as diverse as a converted church; small but legendary
Scottish venues; a disused seminary; even old railway arches.
In November 2011 Song of Return won Nordoff-Robbins
Music Therapy’s “Big Apple” Award. The award is a
collaborative partnership between renowned Scottish
music therapy charity Nordoff-Robbins, Creative Scotland,
The American-Scottish Foundation and Clash Magazine.
This award recognises Song of Return as the biggest,
freshest talent in Scotland and they have been hand-
picked by an all industry panel to represent their home-
land in other territories all throughout 2012, which the
American-Scottish Foundation has deemed their “Year of Creative Scotland”.
