Bio

Discovering music's capacity for instant bliss at age 13, Asaph finally settled for music as his vehicle for creative expression. At 14 he began to effectively write songs and plot world conquest with typical gumption alongside a high school co-conspirator! ! This also marked the beginning of a hide and seek relationship with his late father who disapproved of music as a career path because of its association with drugs. Asaph became the black sheep of the family because of his love for music. At 16 he won a high school talent contest singing a rendition of SERGIO MENDES' " NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO". At age 17 his elder brother who brought him a guitar back for him from an overseas university games trip which Asaph taught himself to play. At age 18 he formed his first real group called the Missing Link playing a mesh of pop/soul/folk.
In 1996 he reached a spiritual turning point by becoming a follower of Yeshua. The missing link according to him, was in his new found faith. This marked the beginning of a new musical and spiritual voyage that he says is not yet complete.
Asaph launched his first album, "Victory : the bright hope project" at the College of Music in Harare in 2001.A song from that album "Strengthen my hands" made it into the semi-finals of the gospel music category in the 2005 U.K.Songwriting Contest something the artiste cherishes . More recently, a video from the current album "Kingdom Child: the emancipation project", called "We shall rise" has been aired on a Christian satellite TV Channel apart from reaching the combined top 100 musical videos of 2006 in his home country Zimbabwe.
Asaph counts U.S. gospel music legend Andrae Crouch whom he met at the legend’s 2002 concert in Zimbabwe and Bazil Meade, leader of the London Community Gospel Choir among the prominent who have been blessed by his ministry.
He has also been a member of the International Songwriters Guild based in the United Kingdom. His music is registered with the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO).
Over the years, Asaph had the privilege of working with African icon TUKU's current drummer Bobby before the former discovered him on his first album "VICTORY" back in 2000. Shower Power Zimbabwe’s primary contemporary gospel group have shared the stage with Asaph. At present Asaph works with a somewhat loose but dedicated association of session musicians from across the denominational divide because having a full-time band is not yet financially viable.
Kingdom Child comes out of “ an inspirational confluence of creative excellence, cultural relevance, spiritual upliftment and scriptural soundness and more importantly it celebrates my four-year-long journey to inspire Africa’s contemporary generation to enjoy the freedom and peace found in a relationship with God ” according to the company press release.
“Perhaps it is the unique package that comes with Kingdom Child: the emancipation project that should lead listeners to appreciate the works of Asaph who is not a new player in the industry. Its blend of soul laced with African rhythms and inflections of jazz, lets the music exude freshness giving it a contemporary and international feel”-music critic
Other facts: Asaph is also ceo and executive producer of his own music production house, Heavy-stone Productions. Born AM Kudita, Asaph is married with a child. He is in his mid-thirties. He is also in discussions with South African music producer Sammy to embark on regional music project with talent identification in mind. Already Asaph has featured a Botswana female artist Olorato on his current project.
