Bio
As its name suggests, Sonic Mosaic creates an array of diverse musical textures, which it carefully reproduces at live performances. Focusing on catchy yet nuanced rhythms and melodies, the power trio’s style incorporates elements from up-tempo classic rock to modern progressive rock. Taking its cues from innovators such as Rush, Pink Floyd, and Porcupine Tree, Sonic Mosaic is both accessible and distinct.
Sonic Mosaic’s tight, dynamic rhythm section both grounds and drives the music, while its layered, riff-oriented guitar focuses and guides it. Keyboards, sound samples and vocal harmonies serve to round out the music and to enhance its impact. Complementing a broad musical approach are singer Robert Henry’s evocative lyrics--considering universal themes of belief, acceptance, attachment and struggle, Sonic Mosaic questions conventions without being prescriptive.
Initially conceived in 1995 as a solo project by Henry (vocals, bass, keys, additional guitars), Sonic Mosaic evolved into a collaborative effort when lifelong friends Rob Engardio (drums) and John Heinlein (lead and rhythm guitar) joined in. The trio previously worked together in the four-man group, Eclipse, which enjoyed some local success playing keyboard-oriented rock in the Lansing, MI, area. Balancing active lives with families and careers, Sonic Mosaic’s early focus was primarily as a creative outlet, an escape from daily routines. Following a 2007 live performance at a Relay for Life event, the group once again decided to push its musical interests to the forefront.
Breaking Silence is the band’s ambitious debut effort and represents the culmination of a decade of development.
