(02/17/06) Former Jangler’s bassist and drummer reunited in 2005 to record a collection of songs. Sonny Miller (bass, guitar, pedal steel, keyboards and vocals) and Will Douglas (drums) recorded at The Wheelhouse Studio in Beachwood, Ohio.
The Janglers, from Cleveland, toured the United States from 1987 to 1994. They played festivals, clubs and showcases in 18 different states and appeared on Star Search.
Sonny Miller’s first solo release draws on his love of American roots music. There are touches of blues (Sonny’s Boogie, Train) country (Goodbye Carolina, Danko’s Blues) and gospel (We Fall Down). The latter, written by David Kyle Matthews, was recorded live during a service at St. Paul’s Congregational Church in Warren, Ohio. Sonny played bass for the church from 2001-2003.
Jewels Dance Hall is a real establishment. The physical structure, depicted on the back cover, is located at 277 Mill Street in Austinburg, Ohio. Legend has it that Toby Keith wrote “I Love This Bar” about Jewels. One of the bands that regularly packs Jewels is Cedar Creek Band. Sonny is the pedal steel and guitar player for Cedar Creek. Inspired by the good times and good music, Sonny named the album after the club.
