Sought-after collaborator, Alessandro Cortini is releasing his debut LP SONOIO – an album composed entirely on a single synthesizer – and providing fans the chance to download the first four songs from the album for free at http://sonoio.org.
A former member of Nine Inch Nails who has worked with Ladytron and HEALTH, Cortini (who performs under the name SONOIO) is celebrating the release of his self-titled solo effort by making it available in a variety of packages. In a rare offering, fan can buy a digital download of SONOIO, an exclusive EP and a SuONOIO – a custom-built portable synthesizer designed by Cortini and Scott Jaeger (The Harvestman).
Cortini spurned heavy-handed studio production and embraced the closed environment of his Buchla analog synthesizer, carving out a new creative direction. At once gritty and melodious, SONOIO (which translates as “it’s me” from Italian) draws from Cortini’s past collaborations while exploring a fresh territory more akin to Crystal Castles and Animal Collective. The result is a multi-layered pop record that reveals new emotional terrain with each listening.
