Do you have certain bands or songs that you associate with certain memories? Every time you hear those familiar chords, you’re instantly brought back to that time and place from the past. They say that the sense of smell is the strongest trigger of memory but some would argue that many people have a much stronger memory trigger from music.
Sons & Heirs is four guys just getting lost in what they love. Trying to create those moments for people that they will never forget. Writing the soundtracks to a million different stories with a million different endings. Not striving to be profound, not attempting to be something they’re not. Just surrendering to a passion for music and seeing where it takes them. If it’s meant to be, the lives of many can be enriched by the sharing of life via the songs they write. If not, then it was still worthwhile, if only to pursue the dream.
Sons & Heirs is Phil Davidson (22) – bass – Phil is the go-to guy to bounce song ideas off of. He thinks in a macro perspective and is always honest in his critique. His energy at a live show is obvious but not forced or overly dramatic.
Sons & Heirs is Matt Terlouw (23) – guitar & vocals – Matt is the soundscape creator. Whether its singing into his guitar pick ups or making his guitar sound like a symphony, his role is crucial. He is a passionate human being and it shows in his playing.
Sons & Heirs is Kerry Van Hemert (21) – drums – Kerry is what we call a loud drummer, not for the sake of being loud, but because that’s how the drums want to be played. His sense of rhythm is precise and creative. He often has the final say on whether a new idea gets to see the light of day or not.
Sons & Heirs is Kellee Van Hemert (23) – guitar & vocals – Kellee is Kerry’s older brother and the two share a keen understanding of how the other operates. Kellee takes on the role of songwriter, often bringing a basic song structure to the band to expand upon. His songwriting takes melodic influences from musicals and his favorite bands, while his lyrics are inspired by God, specific experience, observation, and pop culture.
So will your memories be forever connected to the music of Sons & Heirs? It’s too early to tell. The band’s future has yet to be written. They hope that you will at least listen and see a glimpse of what could be.
