Sons Of One

Throughout the past twenty years, Hip-Hop has evolved from a form of expression heard on the streets to a form of music recognized by all. This evolution has come from new artists with new styles creating a new subdivision of Hip-Hop. First starting with such artists as Rakim, Kool G Rap, and Slick Rick, there was an initial emphasis on the ability to express real life experiences through story telling, and enhanced lyrical flow and content. The popularity of this genre then increased through the emergence of different subject matter, ranging from Hardcore Rap (NWA) to peace and consciousness (Tribe Called Quest). Artists like 2pac, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z have taken from these predecessors, kept up with changing times and added their own flavor ranking them as legends of Rap history. SONS OF ONE are the next step.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, SONS OF ONE are true children of hip hop, paying respects to those before them as well as portraying a style of their own with every lyric said. Formed in December 2002, Kola, Smoo, and Mic Touch Allah united under one name, one mic, with one cause: to take hip-hop to the next level.

The skills of each member have been refined over ten years of personal strife. Through these experiences, they are able adapt to all forms of Hip-Hop. Each member has the ability and technique to either poetically portray a story or enlighten a listener of opinions on a current event. Also having the capability to complete a track within minutes of hearing a beat, SONS OF ONE can always meet the demand of audiences everywhere.

With their self-titled LP released in February of 2004 and their area performances, Sons of One have gained the respect of club goers as well as hip hop fans throughout the Chicagoland area. Currently in works of their next LP, which is due out in 2005, SONS OF ONE is ready not only to obtain mainstream success but to surpass their peers in the process.
