Biography

Canadian singer and songwriter, Sonya Lapensee, grew up with a strong passion for music. This small town girl from Hawkesbury, Ontario, made her entrance into the music scene at the early age of 12, and shortly after took the stage at numerous musical showcases and festivals. By the age of 16, she expanded her passion for music, and discovered an additional talent – songwriting. Inspired by her parents’ music collection (Young, Nelson, Williams, and Cash), Sonya was instinctively motivated to put a pen to paper and crafted heartfelt reflections about her life and surroundings.

Sonya’'s debut 11-song album “"A Little Closer"” was released in 2007 and comprised a collection of catchy songs about love, life, and meaning. Shortly after it’s release, her first single “"I Believe”" was airing on local and international radio stations. With rising popularity, "“I Believe"” was nominated for best single of the year at the Toronto Independent Music Awards in 2008.

Since the release of her first album, Sonya has attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music to refine and reshape her songwriting skills. With the experience gained from this opportunity, she has spent the last 4 years performing live and writing professionally for herself, as well as other rock, pop, folk, and country artists/bands. When asked about what sets her songs apart from others, Sonya replied, "“Every song tells a story. But it’s how you tell that story that makes a song unique. I craft songs so that they’re more than just stories. They take on a life of their own.”"

With a collection of new songs in hand, Sonya is all geared up for the release of her second music project “Brand New Me.” This country/rock EP captures Sonya’'s personal growth and maturity as a songwriter, and features stirring melodies of heartfelt lyrics. The projected release date for this EP is early 2012.

Single Drinking Double

Single Drinking Double

Here’s to my deepest regret
To my unforgivable mistake
To have let his ways make me fall
To have let him break, break my heart
To leave me single
Drinking double

Now poor the crown up to 4 fingers
Two’s for me and two’s for him
For all the memories that still linger
So keep them coming there ain’t no stopping
For this lonesome single
Drinking double

Chorus…
You’ve heard it all just heard it all
Toasted to the hurtin’ kind of love
Throughout the bottles on the wall
You’ve witness strangers every night
Kissing glasses that make them say goodbye

Solo…

My mind has found a spare to forget
I can’t see straight but I don’t care
Thanks to you my dearest friend
For your precious time you hand out well
For this lonesome single
Drinking double

Chorus…
You’ve heard it all just heard it all
Toasted to the hurtin’ kind of love
Throughout the bottles on the wall
You’ve witness strangers every night
Kissing glasses that make them say goodbye

Tinted Glass

Tinted Glass

I needed some air from this crowded place
Went outside bummed a cigarette
It’s so confusing to see you again
Staring at you from a tinted glass
To watch her fingers running through your hair
To watch your eyes seek out for someone else

Chorus…
Could it be that we’re both here tonight
The moon as a witness under the same sky
Think about what might have been
If I didn’t spend my days travelling
Only passing through
Staring at you from a tinted glass

The wind reminds me of how it felt
The chills the thrill that would never end
What you don’t know is what I don’t show
I only bend when someone drops your name
We both know why you’re still here and I’m gone
But the more I stare the more I want to take you home

Chorus…

Solo…

We both know why you’re still here and I’m gone
But the more I stare the more I want to take you home

Back to chorus…

If You Love Me

If You Love Me

Please don’t tell me you’ll try to change
I’ve heard this line a million times before
Let’s not roll the dice on who’s to blame
And keep on dancing on a broken floor

Chorus…
If you love me let me go
We don’t feel the same way anymore
If you love me say goodbye
Turn around and don’t look back

We’ve grown apart and change silently
Don’t get me wrong cause you’ve been good to me
But picture perfect in a silver frame
And a golden ring won’t conceal a thing

Chorus…

Bridge…
Anyway the wind blows it’s where I’ll go
A breath of fresh air to start again
I believe you should do the same

Chorus...
