Bio

Sonya McGuire is a preacher's daughter who learned to sing, act, and appreciate music at a very early age. With music playing such a dominant role in the home, Sonya had no choice but to follow in the unofficial "family business". Sonya chose the drums to express her musical creativity and artistic talent. Later she developed a love for singing and directing, quickly becoming the obvious choice for musical director at her father's church. Thus, her God-given skills took her from behind the drums tot he forefront of music ministry. Sonya's unique ministry and style of praise and worship consistently positioned her as a model praise and worship leader for many churches. With the experience she gained from collaborating with other artists and choirs in the metro-Atlanta area, she co-founded the Agape. Sonya's vocal and leadership abilities were honed during a successful two-year period with the group. Sonya ultimately transitioned from Agape to form the revolutionary gospel singing force, God's Own. While with God's Own, Sonya traveled the eastern seaboard electrifying audiences, offering them an "original" praise and worship experience. With vocal ability that comparable to none and marveled by many, Sonya incorporates thought provoking lyrics with unmistakable jazz overtones into her music. Her organic songwriting and ability to blend soul, jazz, funk, praise and worship has caught the attention of many music legends and record executives.
