La-On G is a Gayageum Ensemble consists of 7 Gayageum perfomers who are formerly students of Kwaks. Kwak and La_On G had a debut performance at Seoul Arts Centre in 2008 under the title of Remembrance of Greenland.
La-On G means Pleasant in Korean and G encompasses of Gayageum, Green and Generation. Kwak and the Ensembles music deliver the delicate, elegant and enchanting sounds by 25 stringed acoustic Gayageum and she does avoid following tendency of mixing with electronic instruments which is often described as Fusion. The repertoire of the performance consists of Kwaks own composition from her solo album The Scenery with the Gayageum and newly composed pieces. She has rearranged all the pieces of the music for her ensemble accompanied by hand chimes and percussion.
Kwak and the Ensembles outstanding performance technique is one thing, but also employing modern and urban sensibility that attract many younger as well as overseas audiences.
Kwak, as the leader of Ensemble, she focuses on building up a great harmonization with other Gayageum players by developing melodies and rhythms on top of harmonies.
-Sooeun Kwak & the Gayageum Ensemble La-On G was selected as Young Sound at Chamber Music Festival by Arts Council Korea in 2010.
