Sophia Shorai has astonished audiences since she was a child star in productions at
the Guthrie and Children's Theater. Her performances of the "Star Spangled Banner"
at national sporting events as well as her gospel work with local church choirs continue
to draw attention to her provocative yet friendly voice.
Since 2002 she has brought the Great American Songbook to life at local mainstays
like the Dakota, Rossi's Blue Star Room, Sophia's, and the French Press. She
performs with a stunning cast of Minneapolis musicians including Clay Moore, Jocko
MacNelly, Adi Yeshaya, Ticket to Brasil, Michael O'Brien and many others.
2004 saw the release of her second album, a collection of Bossa Nova titled "Wave",
followed shortly in 2005 by the release of "Lovng for Non-Lovers", a pop debut with
her band Desiradi. 2002's self-titled jazz debut sold out of print and regularly receives
airplay on KBEM and KFAI.
An evening with Sophia Shorai's band is complete, whether it's blues, bossa, jazz,
contemporary pop, or a tasteful mixture. Perfect ambience for lounging, floor-moving
funky dancing, or a Brazilian trist in the sand for the sophisticate. We hope you enjoy
