"International Songwriting Competition winners"

Sophie Hanlon- A winner in the International Songwriting competition 2014 with her outstanding song 'My Dark Crusade' - International Songwriting Competition

"FeminINDIE cover artist Sophie Hanlon"

While she classifies herself as “Progressive Pop,” the twelve tracks on her soon-to-be-released (no date set yet) album Chemical Girlfriend show that she can spread her wings and be successful in many places. Her love of film scores is evident on tracks like “My Dark Crusade” with the big sound the choir-like backup vocals and piano provide. It almost sounds like it should be in a James Bond movie.

“Chemical Girlfriend” starts slow with Sophie’s distinct voice demanding that you pay attention. Just as she pulls you in, the song kicks it up a notch and her pain is clear when she yells “why can’t that be me?”

The rest of the album is a great mix of indie-inflected pop tunes that wander across the music spectrum the way a dancer glides around the stage. Keep an eye out for a release date and prepare yourselves. Sophie Hanlon is coming, and we should all be a witness to the arrival. - WordKraft

"Music Feeds Review- Sophie Hanlon"

Sounding like a cross between Florence and the Machine and a Tim Burton film – or maybe a song David Bowie would’ve performed out of the Labyrinth – Sophie Hanlon combines a youthful but gutsy voice with a composition filled with both whimsy and darkness. - Music Feeds

"Sophie Hanlon- The Creative force"

Sophie Hanlon is a growing force of nature in the local Sydney music scene. Sophie is back on top of her game creating awesome pop tunes with a rock ‘n’ roll edge and just enough soul in her lyrics for you to fall in love with her quirky Northern English personality after one listen. We’re pleased to announce she’s even cooler in real life, and through chatting about how weird it is to move to Sydney and how much we’d love to direct music videos, we managed to angle in a few actual questions; which are here for your enjoyment.

"Au Review"

Overall the album is probably the best independent
release I have heard in years. Sophie’s own unique style, coupled with her
musical prowess means that she won’t be quickly forgotten in this world of sausage-factory music. It seems to occupy a theme of dystopic fairytales which works perfectly for her style. Raw and intense, but at the same time sweet and introverted, this album will have you begging for more long after you’ve heard it for the thousandth time.Composed and produced perfectly, Sophie’s debut EP is a masterpiece that she should hold
dear for years to come. More Please!
Review Score: 9/10 - Dave Roberts

It is almost impossible to pigeonhole Sophie Hanlon’s songs and musical style. It sounds like something you should have heard but there is no one other artist that she sounds like.

For some who believe there must be a point of reference to validate an artist this may be perplexing. Sophie is a truly modern, original artist and an exceptional performer.

Surrounded by music during her childhood in the Yorkshire Moors, Sophie spent her teens visiting music festivals in the UK with her dad, going on to perform at the renowned Glastonbury festival herself when she was just 17 years old.

Sophie is currently based in Sydney and has just completed her debut album 'Chemical Girlfriend’.  Storytelling, cinematic imagery, poetry and genuine loss are the inspiration for this eclectic set of songs showcasing Sophie’s passion for songwriting and performing.
