Bio

Since the start in 2008, Sophie & Fiachra has gone from strength to strength, with performances in Canada, USA and throughout Europe, and with several TV appearances on RTE and TG4 in Ireland, and Boreo Channel in Germany. Sophie and Fiacrha have recently recorded their debut eponymous album. Their concept is fresh and original; music from Sophies native Quebec blended with that from Fiachra's home, Ireland.

Both band members are very much devoted and true to their traditions in terms of music, and each have been influenced by listening to recordings of Masters from previous generations as well as Current Masters. They share many tunes as their music shares its origins. The styles of these two musicians blends naturally and without compromise; their music is Vibrant, Rhythmic, and Timeless. What this Duo does is completely original.

Because of the Styles of these individual musicians and the nature of their instruments, the music of Sophie & Fiachra sounds like much more than a two piece band. This energetic music promises to entertain and astonish all Audiences.

SOPHIE Sophie Lavoie, from Lac-St-Jean in Québec, performs and teaches traditional music on the Fiddle and Classical music on the Piano. She first was introduced to the world of music when learning the classical piano. Then she became interested in the traditional music of Québec. She started to learn the fiddle by listening to Québec fiddlers from her region such as Louis Pitou Boudreault. In 2004, she finished her studies in classical music with a bachelor degree in Piano in the University of Montreal. One year later, she created with two other musicians, a band of Québec traditional music called L’Attisée. From 2005 to 2008, Sophie performed with her band all over Québec and in Ireland, and she also toured in France and America as part of other projects. In 2009, she met the Irish piper Fiachra O’Regan and started with him this new band Sophie & Fiachra. Sophie is now based in Ireland.

FIACHRA Fiachra O‘Regan, from Connemara, on the West Coast of Ireland, plays Irish music on the Uilleann Pipes and Whistle. He has toured in America, Australia and Europe, and has played on stage along with artists such as The Chieftains and Paddy Keenan. Fiachra is All Ireland Champion on the Uilleann Pipes and the whistle. He has just recorded Aisling Gheal, his first solo album. More info and CD samples on www.fiachrapipes.com
