Smooth and sultry, cool and classy, SophistiCAT are a soulful Jazz combo based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. With a blend of smooth, laid-back grooves from classic styles of jazz, blues and soul with a sprinkling of latin, SophistiCAT bring a smooth elegance to any event.
With a warmth and richness that brings jazz standards alive, the audience soon has their toes tapping and their souls swinging. Bringing class and style to your event, SophistiCAT offer every audience a fresh and sophisticated sound.
Unique and original, this piano/vocal jazz duo will impress you with the fullness of their sound. With Peter playing piano and bass pedals and Robyn on vocals and percussion, they have the sound of a full band.
For larger events and functions, SophistiCAT also expand to a 3 to 5 piece band, adding in a drummer and a brass section.
SophistiCAT have been in demand for private functions, restaurants, events and festivals playing at places as diverse as small clubs, art galleries, wineries and
upmarket Hotels. Wherever they have played, SophistiCAT are always asked back demonstrating their popularity.
Due to his father’s influence, (a great guitarist), Peter grew up listening many of the jazz greats. This sparked a love and
passion for jazz which grew over the years. He draws inspiration from players such as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Ahmad Jamal which motivates him to learn as much as he can on piano.
Robyn, whose heart and soul is in jazz, blues and gospel, is
continually following her passion and exploring new avenues. Nicknamed Mrs “Sassy” Brown by her fellow Gospel Choir members, she is equally at home belting out the blues at the local blues club or singing smooth, soulful jazz at black-tie events.
Her love of the music by the early jazz singers, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone, combined with her gospel influence, is evident in her interpretations of classic jazz standards.
Together as SophistiCAT, Peter and Robyn’s love and passion for jazz, bring
enjoyment to their audience as they work hard to capture the heart and soul of the music they perform.
