Bio

The primary influence for this group of artists is music of yesterday when musicians loved the artform and wanted to inspire the world. What sets them apart is that they are a diversely talented group that moves the crowd not only with their singing and playing, but mostly with their sincere love for music and their captivating, moving performances. Additionally, they all were reared in the church, in music schools, and by other musicians.

Charlene, Lead Vocals

"Remember when music made your soul move?
Remember when music made you contemplate life?
Charlene is a modern day diva with a powerful voice;
one that combines God given talent with authentic style, presence and creativity"

- Frederick Chesson, Promoter

You may have heard one of Charlene 's tunes on Boston's local radio or maybe performed at various showcases across the country. If not, you have surely missed a chilling experience. Standing at just 5 feet 2 inches tall, her powerful and unique voice takes pleasure at filling a room full of crowded spectators.

A trained ballet, jazz and hip hop dancer of 12 years, Charlene not only electrifies crowds and lights up any stage with her raw vocal talent, but also arouses the crowd with her exciting and catalytic dance moves.

This talented soul is a Buffalo, New York native and the 4th of 5 children, who is part of a multi and diversely talented family. Her father has gained notoriety from his home in Jamaica as a vocalist in a traveling reggae band. Her mother has competed in and won several dance competitions all over the country, her brother, a former band member has mastered 4 different instruments, and her sister is a rising opera singer. When asked where she was first introduced to music however, the songstress says, "I can remember my parents playing everything from B.B. King, Betty Carter, and Muddy Waters, to Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley and Dennis Brown at home. When my siblings and I wanted to ask my parents for something, we used to use these family favorites to put on a show. Although it rarely worked, I remember being anxious to perform over and over again." These various genres of music would later help develop her well-trained voice and inspire her lyrical content.

Although it was instilled in her family to seek education first, as she has obtained several academic degrees (MBA, MPH, BA) from prestigious universities, this natural born vocalist knew that music was what she really wanted to pursue and what helped give her the most knowledge of self.

Having made moves from the Apollo Theater, The Village Underground in New York City, to the LA nightlife scene at Crustaceans, the cabaret scene of The Mirage in Las Vegas, House of Blues venues in Philly and California, jazz clubs, Wally's and Scullers in Boston, to various showcases across the world, Charlene has enamored the public with her spiritually, electrifying, hypnotic flow. Every performance helps better define her as a powerful musical force; one that needs to be heard.

Appearing on Fox network's, The Queen Latifah Show and also 30 Seconds to Fame and Star Search. Charlene has obtained several music opportunities. She has worked with several highly acclaimed artists and groups and performed with a diversified roster, including: Natalie Cole, Keith Washington, Mike Phillips, Jeffrey Osbourne, The Delfonics and Blue Magic, Harry Belafonte, the late Jester Hairston, to the now famed R B singer, Joe and the eclectic hip-hop groups De La Soul and Souls of Mischief.

To define her vocal styles, this soul chartreuse has studied the rudiments of classical music to the freeness of improvisational jazz and soulful gospel. With these, she has developed a truly amazing voice; one that is ripe with power and resonant with deep soul. Some of Charlene’s accolades include: 2-time winner at Showtime at the Apollo at the famous Apollo Theatre in NYC, 30 Seconds of Fame finalist, the national NAACP ACT-SO award winner for her contemporary and classical vocal performances, and the Nichols Award for her musical performance.

Charlene has left crowds stirred with the deepest of emotions. It is her powerful voice, her profound expressions, and her breathtaking performance that have launched her high praise. "The strength of her voice and the intensity of her words left the crowd trapped between times," says Frederick Chesson.

Charlene will not only remind you of how music used to be, but how it will be for years to come.
